Media reports said a blaze broke out at a 35-storey high-rise building in Dubai near the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, early Monday morning. Video posted on social media showed flames engulfing several floors of the building, which is reported to belong to construction giant Emaar, a state-backed developer in Dubai. The Associated Press news agency said it was unclear if anyone was injured in the fire.

Local media reports also said there have been no reports of injuries so far.

The Associated Press reported that the fire had been extinguished when reporters arrived at the scene. The building, which is reportedly part of a series of towers designed by Emaar called 8 Boulevard Walk, now has black carbon marks on its facade.

al Khaleej Times reported that while Dubai Police and Dubai Civil Defence have not commented on the fire, video shows them at the scene with first responders.

Some witnesses wrote on social media that the fire alarm did not work.

Neither Emaar nor the Dubai Media Office made any statements.

Local media quoted witnesses as saying the blaze started in a lower apartment and spread upwards, and emergency services quickly extinguished the blaze. Traffic jams were reported in the morning as streets around the area were blocked off.

The skyscraper city of Dubai has reported a series of fires in its high-rise buildings in recent years.
