Summer is officially upon us as temperatures in the UAE breach the 40ºC mark. Now is a good time for residents to go indoors to escape the heat, and what better way to cool down than a snow park?
Abu Dhabi has opened the door to one of the coolest places in the country. Snow Abu Dhabi, the capital’s first indoor snow park, has officially opened at Reem Mall on Reem Island and will welcome visitors on June 8.
Operated by Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, this majestic park spans 100,000 square feet and features more than 20 rides and attractions, all kept at minus 2ºC. But don’t worry; you don’t need to hunt in your cupboards for warm clothes, because the park has them all covered. Once you arrive at the park, staff will provide you with snowsuits, boots, gloves, hats, and warm socks. And come in a variety of sizes for all ages.
Khaleej Times took a sneak peek at the sub-zero leisure park on a guided tour before it opened to the public. It is a one-of-a-kind destination that offers a family-friendly experience.
“What makes Snow Abu Dhabi special is that it is one of the largest snow parks in the world,” Mohammad El Etri, vice president of global snow at Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, told Khaleej Times.
“It’s the perfect place for families. There are attractions for kids, teens and all ages. People can enjoy some great family time. They can chill out or warm up in the cozy restaurant with mouthwatering meals.”
The opening ceremony was attended by Saleh Mohamed Al Geziry, Director of Tourism, Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism; Ignace Lahoud, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment; and El Etri. The park opens just six months after Snow Oman launched, as Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment continues to expand its footprint in the region.
Lahoud noted that Abu Dhabi is fast becoming a global family entertainment and leisure destination.
“We are excited to introduce a new experience unlike anything else the capital has to offer. Entertainment has the uncanny ability to bring people together and enhance the quality of life. The opening of Snow Abu Dhabi reinforces Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment’s commitment to Bringing innovation and an immersive experience for families throughout the Mena region,” said Lahoud, revealing future plans to bring penguins to the park.
Storytelling is baked into the “enchanted forest” themed design, like a fun Frost world. The destination features more than 20 rides and attractions such as the “Crystal Carousel,” “Polar Express,” “Snowy Owl Flight,” “Snow Garden,” and “Magic Tree.”
Year-round, visitors can look forward to a variety of snow adventures such as sledding, carousels, zorbing and zip lining. In addition, there are three food and beverage outlets where visitors can enjoy a variety of delicious snacks and dishes surrounded by real snow.
Bruce von Kaufmann, Director of Reem Mall, said that with the launch of Snow Abu Dhabi, visitors to the mall will have the opportunity to enter a magical winter wonderland, enjoying exciting activities and stunning surroundings.
“We believe this partnership (with Majid Al Futtaim) will set new standards in customer satisfaction, ensuring that Reem Mall remains the destination of choice for Abu Dhabi residents and visitors seeking unforgettable memories and extraordinary entertainment,” Kaufmann noted.
The mall is also home to Vox Cinemas, Majid Al Futtaim’s cinema offshoot with ten state-of-the-art screens.
Snow Abu Dhabi is Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment’s fourth indoor snow park after Ski Dubai (2005), Ski Egypt (2017) and Snow Oman (December 2022). Snow Abu Dhabi offers a wide range of packages and passes, with snow park passes starting at AED 215 and including unlimited use of all rides, wool gloves and a locker. Families can also purchase family passes at a special price of AED 860, where the price for four includes five passes.
