From skypods to driverless cars, a railway connecting all seven emirates, etc…

As we get closer and closer to the grand golden jubilee, the UAE has not only reviewed all its achievements, but is also preparing for the next 50 years.

The UAE already has many public transportation systems, including water taxis, subways, tram systems and monorails, but it will soon become the home of more public transportation systems.

On Instagram, UAE 50th Anniversary Celebration The official page shared a video outlining the expectations of citizens, residents and tourists for the next 50 years.

Abu Dhabi

Etihad Railway

One of its most ambitious travel projects is the 1,200-kilometer Etihad railway network.

The Etihad Railway project started in 2009. The first phase covers a section of track from Shah and Habshan to Ruwais Port in Al Dhafra, Abu Dhabi. It was put into operation in 2016.

When completed, it will connect seven emirates with a passenger and freight track, from the east coast of Fujairah to the edge of Saudi Arabia.

The second phase of work (divided into packages A, B, C and D) started in early 2021, which is an exciting place for other emirates. Some stations along the route will include Abu Dhabi, KIZAD, Khalifa Port, Jebel Ali Port, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah, which are connected to the existing lines of Ruwais, effectively connecting Has become a major industrial port and trade center country.

Hyperloop

The drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi may take two hours. However, with the arrival of the Hyperloop, passengers can reach Abu Dhabi from Dubai in just 12 minutes.

The maximum speed of the train can reach 1000 km/h, which is 3 times faster than the high-speed railway and more than 10 times faster than the traditional railway.

In January of this year, an animated video shared by Virgin Hyperloop accurately demonstrated the feeling of riding a super-high-speed transportation.

In April 2021, His Royal Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Committee, announced that the Road and Transportation Authority (RTA) and the leading autonomous driving in the United States Automobile Cruise has signed an agreement to operate a company that will operate self-driving taxis and taxi-hailing services in the Emirate.

The agreement will make Dubai the world’s first non-US city, where Cruise will operate these vehicles commercially.

These self-driving cars are expected to significantly improve road safety, as more than 90% of accidents are caused by human error. These vehicles are fully electric, environmentally friendly, and can serve a wide range of customers from different communities, including the elderly and determined people.

Sharjah Pods

Sharjah’s high-speed electric aerial pods can not only transport passengers between the emirates, but also transport goods at speeds of 150 kilometers to 500 kilometers per hour.

As the name suggests, SkyWays or Unicars is a suspended transportation system consisting of single Unicars connected by long cables suspended above the ground.

In October 2019, Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, member and ruler of the Supreme Council of Sharjah, visited the Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park (SRTIP), and was trialling a new suspended gondola transport system.

In the test phase, the bicycles only traveled a short distance, but once completed, they will travel 2.8 kilometers from the start of the park (Sharjah Airport Road) to the end (Muwaileh Road). Once successful, the government is expected to announce the construction of its routes within the city and further plans to connect these pods with other emirates.
