DUBAI: The Pakistani flag will be raised at three locations in the UAE on August 14 to mark the 75th anniversary of Pakistan’s independence. Patriotic and cultural performances will also mark Pakistan’s Independence Day on Sunday.
“This year, Pakistan is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its independence. We will be holding three flag raising ceremonies – one at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi, one at the Pakistani Consulate General in Dubai, and one at the Pakistani Embassy, which is currently docked in Dubai. The Pakistan Navy Ship (PNS) Zulfiqar held a special flag raising ceremony,” a spokesman for the Pakistani consulate told Gulf News on Thursday.
“The Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai has also arranged a special photo exhibition on the Pakistani movement and has several events planned to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day. We look forward to seeing the community actively participate in the various celebrations,” added the press consul.
‘Keep Pakistan prosperous’
Pakistan’s Independence Day was first celebrated on August 14, 1947, when the country became the world’s first Islamic republic after gaining independence from British rule.
The Pakistan National Day special event will be held on Sunday evening (7pm) at Pakistan Association Dubai in Oud Metha. The recital of renowned Pakistani poet Khalid Masood Khan will highlight a special cultural performance known in English as “Shad Rahay Pakistan” or “Keep Flourishing Pakistan”.
Amid the cheers of “Zindabad, Pakistan,” the performance will reportedly take centre stage as authentic Pakistani street food will also be on site, along with special raffles, art workshops, Dubai Police Band performances, Organizers of bicycle rallies and more.
In addition, students from Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed School in Abu Dhabi and members of the Pakistani diaspora community arranged a special cultural performance at the Pakistani Embassy in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.
Pakistani diasporas are also expected to celebrate their Independence Day by sharing their patriotic enthusiasm on social media.
