Santa Rosa’s newest nightclub has a long history.
This weekend, Vintage Space will officially open at the local landmark Flamingo Resort since it was built in 1957.
Since 2019, the hotel has undergone a systematic renovation under the ownership of San Francisco-based Palm House Hospitality. The new look of the cocktail lounge and live performance space is the latest step.
“What we envision here is a special, centralized place that brings people together in a positive atmosphere,” said Palm House Hospitality co-owner Anderson Pugash, who has been working with design for the past few months. Designer Brian Anderson remodeled the space.
“The locals still love the place and I love hearing their stories,” Pugash said. “We envisioned a space that pays homage to a building that has been around for a long time and has a rich history. It will not feel completely foreign to anyone who has been here before.”
The 2,700-square-foot space marks Friday’s grand opening weekend with live music from Santa Rosa’s Marshall House Project and Saturday’s DJ NADI playing a mix of African, Latin and Caribbean music. A low-key “soft opening” event was held at the venue last weekend.
The plan calls for a live band every Friday and a DJ every Saturday. Upcoming shows include San Francisco reggae and Latin band the Bayonics on August 26th and Northern California DJ Miguel Migs on September 17th.
In the long run, the owners plan to produce a variety of music, old and new, as well as some additional music. The space features a bar, lounge seating and a crescent dance floor.
“We’re going to have Halloween and New Year’s parties and some comedy shows,” Pugash said.
Vintage Space is decorated in a nostalgic and futuristic style, October 4, 1957.
“It was an era of infinite possibilities and anything could happen. Everything here reflects that, from the decor and the staff to the language on the menu and the actual act of what we would book,” Pugash said.
Pictures on the walls range from historical snapshots of flamingos to retro space-themed art. The menu for “Cosmic Cocktails” includes Astronaut, Doctor Manhattan and a Black Hole Espresso Martini.
There will be a selection of local craft beers and wine by the glass, as well as non-alcoholic beverages.
Palm House Hospitality, co-founded by Pugash and Benson Wang, created the popular San Francisco hangout Palm House and The Dorian. They jointly own and operate five businesses in the Bay Area, including Bergerac, Crossroads Nightlife and Fifty Fifty Cocktails.
The Flamingo Resort is a joint venture between Yang Capital and Palm House Hospitality.
