Dubai-based airline flydubai is gearing up for a record summer in its history, with up to 3 million passengers expected to its network on the back of a surge in travel demand.

Flydubai’s network of 102 destinations averaged 8,500 flights per month during the summer, exceeding pre-pandemic levels.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “While the global aviation industry has slowly recovered from the impact of the pandemic, we are seeing Dubai steadfast in restoring the free flow of trade and tourism. We were able to ramp up operations in record time to meet pent-up demand. This would not have been possible without the hard work of our employees, the collaborative approach taken by key UAE stakeholders and the confidence our passengers have in our operations possible.”

“Our agility and readiness, strong business model and scheduled aircraft deliveries this year will position us well to overcome the challenges we continue to overcome as an industry. We look forward to an extraordinary summer, connecting people and opening up underserved market and provide our customers with more travel options,” added Al Ghaith.

Return to single hub operation
flydubai flights to more than 30 destinations will temporarily operate from Dubai World Centre (DWC) and resume operations from Dubai International Airport (DXB) from 23 June. This follows the successful completion of the 45-day northern runway rehabilitation program for DXB. The airline minimized disruption to passengers by operating out of two airports between May 9 and June 22.

Expand the network and increase the frequency
From July to September, flydubai’s network has an average of 8,500 scheduled flights per month, which means that ASKM (available seat kilometers) is expected to increase by 43% compared to the same period in 2019. Up to 3 million passengers are expected to travel on the airline’s expanding network of 102 destinations.

From June 23, the airline will fly to 11 destinations including: Abha in Saudi Arabia, Batumi in Georgia, Bodrum in Turkey, Izmir and Trab Dzong, Catania and Pisa in Italy, Dubrovnik in Croatia, Mykonos and Santorini in Greece and Tivat Montenegro.

To meet growing demand, flydubai will also increase frequency on some of its popular routes, including Baku, Belgrade, Budapest, Ljubljana, Maldives, Prague, Salzburg, Sarajevo, Tbilisi and Zanzi Barr.

Growing fleet and workforce
flydubai will take delivery of four new aircraft by August 2022, increasing its Boeing 737 fleet to 68, a 73% increase from the number of aircraft in operation during the same period in 2019.

To support this growth trajectory, flydubai has increased its workforce by 20% over the past 12 months, including pilots, cabin crew and talented professionals from 135 different countries. – arab trade news agency
