The codeshare agreement between Air Canada and Flydubai further strengthens the closer air transport links between Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
The partnership has been strengthened, with Emirates launching a new route to Montreal – its second in Canada – and Air Canada’s cargo arm is stepping up its cargo interline partnership with Emirates’ cargo arm, SkyCargo.
Flydubai, which has an extensive codeshare agreement with Emirates, has unveiled its own partnership with Air Canada.
While the partnership has yet to receive final regulatory clearance, the airline said it will use Air Canada’s “AC” designator on nine routes out of Dubai.
The routes will include services to the Gulf destinations of Bahrain, Dammam, Jeddah, Medina and Muscat, as well as the Asian cities of Colombo and Karachi.
Flydubai added that the interline arrangement will allow passengers to “seamlessly connect” to the more than 60 destinations the airline flies to.
Air Canada’s executive vice president of revenue and network planning, Mark Galardo, said the codeshare with Flydubai is a “perfect complement” to its relationship with Emirates.
He also noted that it offers more connections to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent, which are “growing sources of immigration and travel” for Canada.
