Sajjad Tangal is believed to have been killed in an air crash in 1976.

A former Dubai resident was killed in an air crash in 1976. He will be reunited with his family tomorrow.

Sajjad Tangal is from Kollam in Kerala and worked as a film distributor in the UAE. During his stay in the country, he often participated in organizing live performances and performances of Malayalam stars. It was such an incident that eventually led to his presumed death for more than 40 years.

The former expat arrived in Dubai for the first time by boat in the early 1970s and organized a dance performance hosted by then-famous Malayalam actress and beauty pageant champion Rani Chandra.

Sajjad was originally scheduled to accompany the star and her troupe back to Kerala, but in order to complete some work in Dubai, he had to cancel his itinerary at the last minute.

On October 12, 1976, Rani and her team traveled from Dubai to Mumbai, where they took an Air India flight to Kerala.

Unfortunately, the Caravelle jet took off, but soon there was an engine failure.

It crashed near the runway immediately after takeoff, and all 95 people on board-including some friends of Rani and Sajad-were killed in the crash.

Sajad, 70, has been living in a rescue center in Panvel, Navi Mumbai since 2019. In an interview with Khaleej Times, he recalled the tragic disaster that occurred nearly 45 years ago. “I’m so broken, I don’t know what to do,” he said.

His family in Kerala believed that he was also killed in the accident.

However, Sajad suffered post-traumatic stress and other psychological problems after the incident. He quickly returned to Mumbai to do odd jobs to make ends meet.

Although he made a lot of money in Dubai, he lost most of his various businesses, which proved to be useless. Once, he even sold idlis and dosas to support himself, but in the end he squandered everything he earned.

Over the years, Sajjad has been struggling and even didn’t want to keep in touch with his parents and family.

In 2019, several of his friends in the city met KM Philip, the founder of a non-governmental organization called the Society and Gospel Love Association (SEAL), which rescued street urchins and elderly people and provided them with Food, clothing and shelter are in the community center near Panvel. It also tries to reunite the unfortunate with their families.

“His condition is very bad, and we don’t want him to return to normal soon,” Philip told Khaleej Times. “We took him to our shelter and he gradually started to get better. He gave up his bad habits because he consciously gave up the road to destruction,” he added.

A social worker from the SEALs recently visited Kerala and managed to find Sajad’s family.

“His mother, 91-year-old Fathima Beevi, is waiting for his return. His father Yunis Kunju died in 2012 and is known for his generosity,” Philip said .

The mother of the former expatriate is said to be overjoyed while waiting anxiously for the return of the prodigal son 45 years later.

On Monday, Sajjad’s two brothers will visit him at Panvel’s community center and take him home the next day.

Indeed, after Sadjad ended due to a simple turn in his fate, his life returned to its original point.
