Former Interior Minister Ali Ahmed Jalali may lead Afghanistan’s interim government: report-News

[ad_1]

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani urged government forces to maintain law and order in Kabul.

Three diplomatic sources said on Sunday that when Taliban militants gather near Kabul, American scholar Ali Ahmed Jalali, the former Afghan Interior Minister, may be appointed as the head of the Kabul interim government.

Earlier, Acting Interior Minister Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal (Abdul Sattar Mirzakwal) stated in a televised speech that there would be a peaceful transition, but no details have been confirmed.

The source said that it is unclear whether the Taliban has finally agreed to Jalali’s appointment, but he is seen as a potentially acceptable compromise figure overseeing the transfer of power.

At the same time, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani urged government forces to maintain the security of Kabul on Sunday after the Taliban suspended full advancement in the suburbs of the capital, causing widespread panic.

“This is our responsibility, and we will do this in the best possible way. Anyone who thinks of chaos, plunder or robbery will be hit by force,” he said in a video released to the media.
