Freddie Highmore good doctor fame, detailing his bizarre experience of being stuffed into a broom closet on a talk show.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Monday’s show jimmy kimmel live, Highmore praised the host for having the “best backstage” compared to the more “challenging” circumstances he experienced on other sets.
He then went on to recall an incident on an undisclosed talk show in which he was thrown into a broom cupboard by producers so as not to bump into the host before the show began.
“I try to avoid naming names, but this host doesn’t like to meet guests beforehand,” shares Highmore. “So, I went backstage with a couple of the producers, and they looked up and saw the presenter at the end of the corridor, and they were really, really scared.”
He recounted that the “terrified” producers locked him in the first door in the hallway, out of sight until the presenter passed.
“They grabbed me and threw me next door in the hallway, which was a broom closet. A black broom closet,” he said. “I was there for about a minute, and they were like agents on the phone, ‘Are we safe? Are we okay? Are they gone? Can we get him out?’ Scared.
Kimmel was surprised by this, and Highmore responded, “And walked out like nothing happened!”
He then went on to praise Kimmel, saying his show is “a much more enjoyable way to spend my evenings” these days, adding, “Thank you for being a decent human being.”
To get Highmore to drop the host’s name, Kimmel joked, “Kathie Lee Gifford did that to you?” The actor just quipped, “Shut up.”
