Free Movie Night at Aaru Entertainment

[ad_1]

I Finally doing something I’ve been wanting to do for months. Aru Entertainment, a VR arcade/café in Tulsa that hosts free weekly movie nights. It used to be Wednesday, but it was recently changed to Thursday. During the school year, it’s a little harder to attend these events as they start at 7pm which delays bedtime. (In July, it starts at 8pm) But it’s summer now, and I don’t want to miss this opportunity!

Visit Aru

Joss and I visited Alu when it first opened, but I haven’t been back since. (Some of these pictures are from the original trip, so it might look slightly different today.) Located at 7 N. Cheyenne (near Welltown), Aru is a cool, cozy place to hang out. You can rent several padded VR rooms, as well as a 360-degree Omnideck. The Omnideck is currently the only Omnideck open to the public (anywhere), which is amazing! You must wear a seat belt to use it.

Downstairs there are also plenty of comfortable places to sit and tables.

drinks and food

On the ground floor there is a café and bar serving some delicious seasonal drinks. For movie night, I bought coconut fudge, a coconut vanilla cream soda. Joss saw jasmine green tea on the menu and wanted it iced. To my surprise, he drank everything! I think he asked for sugar. The staff are also very friendly and willing to answer any questions etc. See menu: aaru.games/cafe-bar

You can buy some packaged food at the cafe. They sell ramen noodles for $3, but they don’t have a kitchen, so you’re welcome to bring your own food or order takeout. For movie night, we brought our own popcorn.

Walking up the stairs is probably one of Joss’ favorite things to do. They feature motion- or touch-activated lighting that changes as you ascend.

In the upstairs loft you’ll find fun and comfortable seating that welcomes you to move as needed. There are also a few small tables, which should be a good place to study. But there’s also chess, games, drawing tablets, and colored pencils, among other things. So it’s a great place to hang out, play games, get creative, etc.

Aru's Loft Seat

For movie night, Joss bought a comfortable Papillon chair. There are not many people and the screen is easy to see.

upcoming movie

Thanks to popular vote, most of Aru’s screenings so far have been Studio Ghibli films. In fact, Jos went to Aru with his dad for his birthday and watched Princess Mononoke. I didn’t realize it was rated PG-13, so it was a little tight for him in places. Great movie, just some horrific images. But most of what they show is very kid-friendly.

Last night, we watched “The Cat Returns,” one of the few (I think) Studio Ghibli films I haven’t seen yet. It’s crazy, but fun!

Their July lineup is:

  • July 6, 8 p.m.: Agents 3: Game Over
  • July 13, 8 p.m.: The Secret World of Arrietty
  • July 20, 8 p.m.: “Porco Rosso”
  • July 27 at 8pm

I’m sure I’d be comfortable taking Joss to these places. Due to the late start time, I know we won’t be attending every week, but hopefully we will be at least once.

If you’d like to give your opinion on an upcoming movie, follow Aaru on Facebook as they’ve been posting polls there to gauge what people want to see in the future.

VR booking

If you want to play VR in Aaru, you have a few options. Omnideck $55 for 30 minutes. Standard VR includes a private room for $35 for 30 minutes. (Kids get 20 percent off on Sundays.) Multiplayer games are their most popular option, and only $20 for 30 minutes. You can have up to 4 players in a private room at a time and chat with friends in-game. So if you plan to go with a group, this is a good choice.

sunday in aru

In addition to offering a 20% discount for kids on Sundays, Aaru also offers Mario Kart on Sundays from 10am to 5pm. You can play Mario Kart, Mario Party, and Super Smash Bros. on your projector for free! There are still some things on my wish list that we haven’t done yet.
