Fotowatio Renewable Ventures, a leading developer of sustainable energy solutions and part of Saudi-based Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, has announced the acquisition of two battery storage projects in the central region.
The portfolio was acquired from RE Projects Development Limited (REPD), the UK’s leading developer of utility-scale solar and battery projects, the project sponsor and developer. Each project occupies a total area of 1.01 hectares. It plans to enter the pre-construction phase in the third quarter of 2023.
Tyler Hill Renewables, a UK-based renewable energy company that provided FRV with this opportunity, is also assisting with the development process.
Two lithium-ion battery storage systems
The projects will include two lithium-ion battery storage systems with a combined capacity of up to 100 megawatts, which will allow imported and exported energy to be connected to the distribution network. Both projects followed planning plans to meet target readiness dates.
Fady Jameel, Vice-Chairman and Vice-Chairman of Abdul Latif Jameel said: “At Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, we are passionate about working with best-in-class partners who share our vision to drive a green revolution through the use of innovative technologies. FRV and Tyler Hill Renewables once again demonstrates that we are stronger in addressing the challenges of climate change. Projects like this are a powerful reminder to the world that battery storage is an increasingly viable option for a more sustainable future for all.”
David Menéndez, Managing Director of FRV UK, said: “Through REPD and Tyler Hill, we welcome these two new battery storage projects in the UK, adding to a portfolio that also includes other outstanding projects such as Contego and Clay Tye. In this way, we remain committed to expanding FRV’s energy storage project portfolio internationally and continue to make a significant contribution to the country’s evolution towards a more sustainable energy model, which is one of our key strategic goals.”
promise
The two projects reflect FRV and Abdul Latif Jameel Energy’s commitment to battery storage, adding to the five BESS projects already in operation, under construction and in development. All of these projects are equivalent to 340 megawatts, an addition to the recently announced 1 gigawatt following the creation of FRV TH Powertek Limited, a joint venture between FRV and Tyler Hill Partners, which will create the UK’s largest BESS portfolio.
