Gabrielle Union and Eva Longoria will star in an LGBTQ+ wedding comedy.
The two actresses are working on a new feature film for Amazon Studios in which they will play dueling soon-to-be mother-in-laws trying to take over their son’s wedding planning.
“Eva and I tried to take over their wedding planning and make it our dream wedding with them,” Union told Variety.
The untitled comedy is being written by Ricardo Gamboa, and Macro Film Studios will produce with Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment and Union’s I’ll Have Another Productions.
Meanwhile, Union also updated with an update on the road trip film “Get To Be,” directed by Billy Porter, about three Rhode Island high school students who travel to New York City for their first gay parade.
The actress, who is a producer on the film, was inspired to make the film when her daughter with Dwyane Wade asked to go to Miami Pride when she was 10 years old.
In the film, she says: “It’s a bunch of different kids. One is a chubby Asian guy and the other is a non-binary black — I don’t want to say heroine or heroine, but a big extravagant, dynamic guy — Then there was a white bisexual boy.
“I believe it’s important to have real representation so we don’t act,” she said.
Union will also star in the upcoming Disney animated film Odd World, where she and Jake Gyllenhaal will voice the parents of a gay teen named Ethan Clade (Jaboukie Young-White), who will play the mother of a young gay man Ellis French (Jeremy Pope) in “Inspection.”
In the latter, Ellis joins the Marines after his mother abandons him and is forced to live on the streets.
She has previously stressed the importance of showing more diverse LGBTQ+ stories on screen.
“A lot of people are trying to erase large parts of our population and trying to reimagine reality without LGBTQIA people,” she said.
“The reality is, we are everywhere, in every corner of the planet.”
