GCSO busy with gun-related incidents in entertainment venues

[ad_1]

The Grant County Sheriff’s Office issued two press releases Saturday detailing two cases involving guns at two popular Grant County locations this week; the Canyon and the Grant County Fairgrounds. GCSO highlights citizens’ efforts to prevent possible tragedies.

“(The public) are extra eyes and ears at the concert,” said GCSO public information officer Kyle Foreman. “We’re grateful they brought these things to our attention.”

The GCSO’s first press release said Grant County representatives believed they intercepted a possible mass shooting at the Canyons Amphitheater Friday night.

Jonathan R. Moody, a 30-year-old Evrata resident, was seen inhaling an unknown substance or gas from a balloon and then loading two from the trunk of his car, the press release said. 9mm pistol. Moody hid one pistol behind his belt and another in a holster outside his belt. He was also seen approaching concert-goers, asking when the concert was over and where people would be leaving the venue.

Citizens and security personnel notified the GCSO of their observations and concerns around 9 p.m.

Foreman said Moody’s does have a concealed carry permit, but it did so on the Canyon property, where there is no weapons policy.

Moody was detained and disarmed by LiveNation security outside the gates of the venue. Following an investigation, deputies arrested Moody on one count of possession of a dangerous weapon and one count of unlawful possession or handling of a weapon, and is being held at the Grant County Jail, the release said.

Foreman noted that Moody’s carrying a gun wasn’t the only reason for his arrest, explaining that it was Moody’s suspicious behavior combined with the weapon that led to the police’s detention and arrest.

“If you’re just a person who legally carries a gun, obviously there’s no problem,” Foreman said.

Moody’s made no statement to representatives, the release said.

A second incident involving weapons also occurred on Friday, but at the Grant County Fair.

A second press release said teenage violence earlier this week and Friday night led to several fights and the arrest of a 15-year-old boy. The arrested teenager had a pistol in his hand.

No shots were fired and no one received medical care in either incident Friday night.

Forman said additional law enforcement officers from Grant County will be on the scene tonight to prevent further incidents from those involved earlier in the week or those looking for opportunities.

“I think the public expects a high level of security at any event, any public event, whether it’s a Grant County fair, a concert, or any other event with a large number of people,” Forman said. “So we try to do that. at this point.”

GCSO would like to remind and thank the public that if they see something, say something.
