Gecko Robotics to establish international headquarters in UAE

US company Gecko Robotics announced on Sunday that it will open a new international headquarters in the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Economy’s NextGenFDI program.

The company develops robots capable of inspecting oil and gas and electrical infrastructure.

As part of its investment in the country, the Pittsburgh-based company is planning to Khalifa Industrial Zone, Abu Dhabi This will create around 300 jobs over the next few years.

“Once again, we are seeing world-leading technology make a home in the UAE. Our industrial base is looking to integrate the tools of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to increase efficiency and productivity, and Gecko Robotics will be a key partner in this journey,” UAE External Affairs said Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Trade.

Gecko’s wall-climbing robots use a specially designed sensor payload to detect otherwise invisible damage, enabling precise repairs and predictive maintenance. Many companies and government agencies use Gecko’s software to extend the life and efficiency of critical infrastructure, including power plants, refineries, manufacturing facilities and other assets.

“We strongly believe in the UAE and its transformation into a globally competitive economic and innovation hub. Here we can export from here to the rest of the world using the UAE’s Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, and we can support energy businesses in the region to achieve to increase productivity efficiency and create momentum for achieving net zero goals,” said Jake Loosararian, CEO and co-founder of Gecko Robotics.

Dr Al Zeyoudi said Gecko’s investment supports the UAE’s mission to develop a world-class advanced technology ecosystem.

“We are making the UAE one of the easiest places on the planet to enter the market, find the right workforce and scale up rapidly,” he said.

The UAE, the second-largest economy in the Arab world, is taking various measures to attract more foreign direct investment into the country.

The Ministry of Economy launched the NextGenFDI programme in July to attract digital businesses from around the world with the market access package needed to establish and scale within the UAE. These include a fast and flexible registration process, fast-track permits, bulk visa issuance, banking facilitation, and commercial and residential leasing incentives.

It complements other programs such as National Coder Programproviding golden visas for 100,000 programmers.

The programme aims to accelerate the UAE’s economic diversification agenda and enhance its position as a knowledge and innovation economy. Gecko Robotics is the latest to join the programme, joining UK tech companies Godel And food app development company Krush — expect more in the coming weeks.

Gecko Robotics said it sees the UAE market as an important hub for acquiring manufacturing and engineering talent as it expands in Europe and the Middle East.

“Our first employees have already settled in the UAE and we have ambitious plans to expand our footprint,” Mr Loosararian said.
