She fell asleep.” Arianna’s mother immediately drove her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery. According to reports, the child was hit in the torso and suffered multiple injuries, including a punctured lung and liver, and three fractured ribs.
Derek felt lucky that his daughter was not killed by the shooting, but he believed their home was the target. “Why would my house be blown up?” he said. “My daughter doesn’t know. I can’t explain this to her. As a father, you should protect your children.” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner launched an internal affairs investigation into the department’s response time to the shooting. Derek explained that the authorities did not arrive until 7 o’clock in the morning, nearly four hours after the incident.
In a statement, Chief Fenner said: “I am aware of and worried about the delay in response to this incident and have initiated an internal affairs investigation. I request the city government to continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and provide assistance to help arrest the suspect.
