George Floyd’s 4-year-old niece is recovering after being shot

The bullet was fired by an unidentified suspect who opened fire on her family apartment in Houston, Texas.according to ABC 13Arianna’s father, Derrick Delane, said that their apartment in the 3300 block of Yellowstone Avenue was shot several times before 3 am on January 1. The gunfire entered the second floor of the building and hit the child sleeping in the front bedroom.

“My daughter jumped up and said,’Dad, I was hit.’ I was shocked to see the blood stains and I realized that my 4-year-old daughter was really hit,” Derek recalled. “She doesn’t know what happened. She fell asleep.” Arianna’s mother immediately drove her to the hospital, where she underwent surgery. According to reports, the child was hit in the torso and suffered multiple injuries, including a punctured lung and liver, and three fractured ribs.

Derek felt lucky that his daughter was not killed by the shooting, but he believed their home was the target. “Why would my house be blown up?” he said. “My daughter doesn’t know. I can’t explain this to her. As a father, you should protect your children.” Houston Police Chief Troy Finner launched an internal affairs investigation into the department’s response time to the shooting. Derek explained that the authorities did not arrive until 7 o’clock in the morning, nearly four hours after the incident.

In a statement, Chief Fenner said: “I am aware of and worried about the delay in response to this incident and have initiated an internal affairs investigation. I request the city government to continue to pray for the child’s full recovery and provide assistance to help arrest the suspect. Information about the person or the perpetrator.” At present, Arianna is recovering, and the Houston police are investigating the shooting and seeking public help to bring justice to her.
