German GCC tourists surge 318% in first half

[ad_1]

The German National Tourist Board (GNTB) said overnight stays by Gulf nationals in the country increased by 318% in the first six months (H1) of 2022 compared to the same period last year.

GCC nationals made more than 335,000 stays in the first half of 2022, compared with just under 81,000 in 2021. These figures confirm the region as the fastest growing source market in Asia.

While tourist numbers may not have returned to pre-pandemic levels, the encouraging growth points to a strong recovery in the country while continuing to attract tourists.

“The Gulf Cooperation Council is Asia’s largest source market, so it’s no surprise that we have seen such strong growth at our recent events,” said Yamina Sofo, Director of Sales and Marketing at the German National Tourist Board, GNTB’s regional office.

“Pandemic recovery has long been a top priority, and it’s encouraging to see a growing interest in exploring all that Germany has to offer, both on long-term travel and first-timers.”

Overall, overnight visitors to Asian source markets increased by 252.3%, jumping from just over 217,000 to just under 800,000 in six months. While some countries continued to impose travel restrictions in the first half of the year, the surge in growth demonstrates dedication and determination in international travel.

To further spark interest in Germany travel for the remainder of 2022, the GNTB has announced the launch of its “Feel Good” campaign, which includes a slew of guide tips highlighting the country’s eco-initiatives, giving conscious travelers enough tools and information to Reduce their carbon footprint on the go.

A recent survey by Dubai-based consumer insights firm D/A revealed that interest in travel in the UAE has shifted post-pandemic, with relaxation in natural surroundings proving to be the most popular, followed by cultural experiences.

The German.Local.Culture campaign, running across the GCC since March 10, focuses on raising awareness of the vast array of traditional experiences Germany has to offer, including ethnic crafts and customs, local cuisine and diverse cultures. Historic city, while Embrace German Nature, starting April 21, highlights nature-centric outdoor activities. Consistent with market demand, these activities are directly attributable to increased foot traffic at GCC, Sofo said. – arab trade news agency
