GHA Launches Green Collection

UAE-based Global Hotel Alliance (GHA), the world’s largest alliance of independent hotel brands, has launched the Green Collection, bringing together nearly 200 hotels, resorts and palaces operated by the GHA hotel brand.

Every Green Collection hotel has at least one certification from a globally recognized environmental organization, including 15 leading certification bodies such as EarthCheck, Green Growth 2050, Green Key and Green Globe, each requiring hotels to meet sustainability initiatives The highest international standards and performance, and regularly undergo third-party audits to maintain certification.

Accreditation demonstrates a hotel’s long-term commitment to upholding these standards, with each Green Collection property being a pioneer in practices that protect the natural environment and benefit the local communities where they operate.

According to a recent World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) report, 69% of travelers will actively seek sustainable travel options by 2023, and the Green Collection meets this accelerating demand, making the GHA Discovery loyalty program 24 million members empowered to make conscious and responsible travel choices. In 2022, members showed a preference for Green Collection properties, which contributed 32% of occupancy, 39% of nights stayed, 47% of room revenue and 49% of total revenue.

The Green Collection accounts for nearly a quarter (24%) of GHA Discovery’s portfolio, representing half of its brands, from mid-range to high-end, including Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas, Avani Hotels & Resorts, Capella Hotels & Resorts, Corinthia Hotels, Elewana Collection, GLO Hotels, JA Resorts & Hotels, Kempinski Hotels, Marco Polo Hotels, NH Hotels, NH Collection, nhow, Niccolo Hotels, Oaks Hotels Resorts & Suites, Pan Pacific Hotels & Resorts, Patina Hotels & Resorts, PARKROYAL COLLECTION, PARKROYAL, Sukhothai Hotels & Resorts, Outrigger Resorts & Hotels and The Set Collection.

From city hotels to beach resorts, the collection spans across 44 countries and 112 destinations, spanning every region. In the Middle East and North Africa, Green Collection properties account for half of GHA Discovery’s portfolio, while in Africa and Asia they account for 37% and 36% respectively.

The country with the highest Green Collection hotel density is the Netherlands with 31 hotels (97% of GHA hotels in the country); Thailand with 16 hotels (52%); UAE with 15 hotels (52%); China with 13 hotels ( 31%); Kenya with 10 hotels (77%); Belgium and Argentina with 7 hotels (54% and 50% respectively).

Many GHA brands have already achieved certification for every hotel in their portfolio, or are well on their way to doing so, such as Elewana Collection, GLO Hotels, JA Resorts & Hotels, Kempinski Hotels, Capella Hotels & Resorts and Outrigger Resorts.

Hotels in the Green Collection are acting in line with the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria (GSTC) guidelines, which include implementing effective sustainable planning; maximizing social and economic benefits to local communities; enhancing the cultural heritage of the destinations where they operate; reducing impact on the environment negative impact.

To celebrate the launch of the Green Collection, GHA Discovery is giving back to causes that are important to members and their hotel brands.
