This Milwaukee Bucks wrap up their trip to the United Arab Emirates Saturday’s 118-109 loss to the Atlanta Hawks at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The team was scheduled to fly back to the United States immediately after the game.
Here are some highlights of the game.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, Wesley Matthews leave Bucks
After debuting the exhibition season on Thursday, Giannis Antetokounmpo Was ruled out of Saturday’s game. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 19 points in 21 minutes in three quarters on Thursday. In late September, Matthews sprained his ankle in training and has yet to get dressed for the preseason.
Bucks back-to-back against Bulls, Nets
Although Milwaukee returns to the globe on Saturday, they will have to quickly adjust to the central time zone when they travel to Chicago on Tuesday before wrapping up their preseason at home against Brooklyn on Wednesday.
“It’s not ideal,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said before the game Saturday. “I think some situations are unavoidable and you have to go with the flow. I think it’s pre-season so we can do something or we’d love to try to manage and ease the difficulty of getting out of this situation and going into back-to-backs. But , it’s preseason. I think we’ll find a way to put in the work and put in the time. There are very, very good teams and I don’t think the players are playing every preseason, so we’ll find management and The way to go back to back when we got home. It was a good experience.”
Foul trouble for the Bucks
Bucks were called for 22 fouls in Thursday’s game against Atlanta With their healthy starters on the court, all three of them are shooting 3-pointers. Some hiccups are to be expected as the Bucks begin to adjust their defensive philosophy and strive for more 3-pointers — but Budenholzer still isn’t happy about it.
“They’re very good on offense, so it’s good to test ourselves on defense and see where we can improve and get better,” Budenholzer said before the game. “I would say, Fouls are terrible. Especially on 3-point shooters.”
Things weren’t much better on Saturday as the reserves had more time. Jordan Nvola fouled Atlanta’s AJ Griffin on a 3-pointer and the Bucks were given 26 fouls. Also, eight of them were offensive, and several of them appeared on illegal screens.
A deeper look at the Bucks vs. Hawks stats
0: UW alum and current hawk Frank Kaminsky combined for 28 minutes in both games. He only fired four shots.
6-7: Three-point shooting percentage Bucks guard Jevon Carter in two games in Abu Dhabi.
15: integral Bobby Portis Lead the Bucks regulars on 7 of 14 shooting Saturday. Lindell Wigginton added 16 people off the bench to lead the team.
28.8: Trae Young’s 7 3-pointers average distance in feet.
49.2%: The Hawks’ 63 points in the first half came from Young (31).
Did you notice Jrue Holiday vs. Trae Young?
With All-Star Antetokounmpo, Chris Middleton With Dejounte Murray all out, the focus is on the team’s two point guards. They went head-to-head in the first quarter, with Young playing the full 12 and Jrue Holiday 11. The pair put on a show on offense, with Young scoring 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting and Holiday scoring 7 points on 2-for-7 shooting from the free throw line. They each had three assists in the opening game.
Young stayed hot — including some deep, iconic 3-pointers — with 31 points in 19 minutes in the first half, as he shot 7-of-9 from behind the arc. His finish is a driving scoop around the holidays.
However, Holiday’s shooting still eluded him, scoring 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting in the first half.
Trae Young in the game
It’s a Trae Young game, as the Eagles superstar echoes the Bucks’ emphasis on 3-point defense and 0-4 from long range on Thursday, and emphasises Saturday’s deep offense. Pick any of Young’s great 3-pointers as the play of the game, as his efforts from beyond the arc helped the Eagles win. His ability to make his signature 3-pointer represents what Young is capable of — and how he stretches defenses to the limit.
