LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Thanksgiving afternoon game between the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys set the record for the most-watched NFL regular-season game ever.
Cowboys win 28-20 According to Nielsen, Fox averaged 42 million viewers, surpassing the 41.55 million viewer average for Monday night, Dec. 3, 1990, between the ABC Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. Average audience records go back to 1988.
The average viewership rating for the three Thanksgiving games on Thursday was 33.5 million, beating the previous high of 32.9 million set in 1993 when two games aired.
The average was also up 6 percent from last year’s average of 31.6 million.
Buffalo Bills beat Detroit Lions 28-25 The game on CBS was the most-watched early Thanksgiving game on record, averaging 31.6 million viewers.
Nighttime games between the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings averaged 25.9 million viewers, the second-highest attendance for a Thanksgiving night game. Vikings win 33-26 Second only to the 2015 game between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers (27.8 million).
