Pascal Ackermann wins stage 11 of 2023 Giro d'Italia

Team Emirates’ Pascal Akerman beats Jonathan Milan (Bahrain Victory) to win stage 11 of the 2023 Giro d’Italia. Ackermann earned his 39th career win and 39th Giro d’Italia stage win for Germany. Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadier) maintain maglia rosa.

At 219km, today’s Camaiore-Tortona stage is the longest in the 2023 race and despite the 3 KOM challenges, it is an opportunity for the sprinters.

A peloton of 142 strong riders crossed KM0 at 11.50. COVID continues to tear the game apart, Mattia Cattaneo, Josef Cerny, Jan Hirt, Louis Vervaeke (all Soudal Quick-Step), Andrea Vendrame (AG2R Citroën Team), Jonathan Klever Caicedo (Ef Education-EasyPost), Stefano Gandin (Corratec) Selle Italia) and Natnael Tesfatsion (Trek – Segafredo) both dropped out overnight.

Another cool, rainy day with temperatures not expected to be much above the mid-60s.

Just 12 kilometers into the race, another breakthrough occurred. Thomas Champion (Cofidis), Diego Pablo Sevilla (Eolo-Kometa), Filippo Magli (Green Project-Bardiani CSF-Faizanè), Laurenz Rex (Intermarché-Circus-Wanty), Alexander Konychev and Veljko Stojnić (Team Corratec-Selle Italia) today did this action.

Unlike yesterday’s stage, the peloton did not give the six-man group too much restraint today. The gap between them and the maglia rosa group was never more than 3 minutes, and with 52 kilometers to go, the gap narrowed to 1 minute and 43 seconds.

A crash in the peloton took maglia rosa Geraint Thomas and a few other race leaders to the fore. Unfortunately, Tao Geoghan Hart was seriously injured and had to withdraw from the race.

With 30 kilometers to go, the leader has just one minute to go. Trek – Segafredo up front, Movistar also helping. Breakthrough credits to Rex, Stojnić and Champion.

With 18 kilometers to go, the gap closes to 22 inches.champs can’t keep up pace Then back to peloton.

And then there was Laurenz Rex alone, the peloton breathing on his neck. He held on until the 5km flag before sitting down to catch the ball.

Then there’s the sprint team.

Charles Quartermann (unwisely) went for victory with about 3 kilometers left before the sprint officially started.

It came down to a photo session between Ackerman and Jonathan Millan.

Stage winner Pascal Ackermann said seconds after the race: “It’s a very special victory for me, it’s my first victory this year after breaking my tailbone last year. My teammates took me to number one. I proved that I can do it and I’m very happy today. All the sprinters were very strong and it was a very tense finish. I didn’t know how slippery it was, so I Decided to hit the front early. Cavendish is strong. Now we will hiker Hope our team’s second victory will come soon. “

Maglia Rosa Geraint Thomas said: “As usual, we are fighting for places and the UAE guy Crashed next to me. I don’t know who exactly was taken after me.
