Global technology, industry and financial leaders gather at CLIMATE TECH in the UAE

ABU DHABI, UAE – The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), in partnership with ADNOC and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar), announced today that more than 1,000 of the world’s leading policy makers, CEOs, Experts, technologist leaders and investors will participate in the UAE Climate Technology Forum.

The first international forum of its kind to be held at the UAE Year of Sustainable Development will Held at the Abu Dhabi Energy Center on May 10-11. With industry leaders including AWS, Bank of America, 44.01 and Total Energies and global technology pioneers including Carbon Clean, LanzaTech and Bloom Energy in attendance, discussions will focus on identifying practical actions to reduce energy and elusive emissions Up – The industry is set to shrink by at least 43% by 2030, according to the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The exhibition and technical conference will also showcase the latest advances in robotics, artificial intelligence, decarbonization and fuels for the energy transition.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman-designate of COP28 and Chairman of Masdar, said: “The goals of the Paris Agreement can only be achieved through urgent action and global cross-sectoral cooperation. Therefore, I call on all industrial partners to participate in this important forum and engage all relevant parties. UAE CLIMATE TECH will bring together industry and financial leaders Architects, technology pioneers and visionary innovators as they embark on a common path towards concrete climate action while achieving socio-economic growth to support the transition, decarbonisation and future proof towards net zero emissions.”

Other topics to be discussed include the role of technology in addressing the energy trilemma, availability, affordability and sustainability, and business incentives for the impact of decarbonisation, new energies and digitalisation on the industrial sector as a whole.

The UAE is a significant investor in climate action. Masdar aims for 100 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity and 1 million tonnes of green hydrogen production by 2030, while ADNOC has allocated $15 billion for low-carbon solutions, new energy and decarbonization technologies . UAE CLIMATE TECH will facilitate the country’s efforts to create and grow green industries, including climate-critical industries such as renewable energy, hydrogen energy, climate-smart agriculture and STEM education.

In line with the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Strategy initiative and 300 billion in action, MoIAT is supporting companies across the UAE to decarbonise their production methods, increase efficiency and increase sustainability, while incentivizing new businesses that prioritize decarbonization. Initiatives and partnerships include the Technology Transformation Initiative, the Industrial Technology Transformation Index (ITTI), Green Finance in partnership with the UAE Development Bank, and the Industrial Sustainability Alliance. MoIAT also raises awareness of green regulations and standards, and promotes research and development to deploy advanced technologies that support sustainable development.

About the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) was established in July 2020 to increase the contribution of the industrial sector to the UAE’s GDP and promote sustainable industrial development. The Ministry was formed by the merger of the Office of the Minister of State for Advanced Technologies, the Emirates Standardization and Metrology Authority (ESMA) and the Industry Division of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure.

The Ministry is a key driver of the UAE’s 2050 Net Zero Emissions Strategic Initiative and plays an important role in the country’s COP28 agenda.
