The Victorian Government hosted a special Melbourne Cup breakfast for guests from all over the world at the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

A highlight of this event was the 2018 Melbourne Cup, which was won by Godolph’s thoroughbred “Cross Counter”, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ruler of Dubai. His Highness Al Maktoum, he won for the first time in Australia’s greatest competition.

The Victorian Government is a platinum partner of the Australian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, and has organized a breakfast meeting in cooperation with the Victorian Horse Racing Club (VRC), the Australian Trade Commission and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

Australian Commissioner-General Justin McGowan, Victorian Government Trade and Investment (VGTI) Dubai Office General Manager Kassem Younes, and Godolphin Stables UK and Dubai Director Hugh Anderson delivered keynote speeches.

“The Melbourne Cup is the pinnacle of the Victorian Spring Carnival, and we are delighted that guests from Dubai can experience it with the recent Cup champions,” said Mr Younis.

“This annual breakfast celebrates the special connection between Melbourne and Dubai and provides a great opportunity to promote Victoria to the business and sports communities in the UAE.”

In addition to the live broadcast from the Melbourne Cup to the Australian Pavilion, there are also pre-recorded messages from Hon Martin Pakula, Minister of Trade, Minister of Horse Racing and Minister of Tourism, Sports and Events, and VRC Chairman Neil Wilson.

Victoria is Australia’s major event and horse racing capital, and the Melbourne Cup is hailed as “a race that stops a country”.

As the pace of Victoria’s safe reopening accelerated, the crowd returned to the Melbourne Cup. After music lovers from all over Melbourne participated in a concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, as many as 10,000 racing fans came to Flemington.
