Rob Phillips Tournament rescheduled
The Rob Phillips Tournament originally scheduled for Oct. 1 has been rescheduled for Oct. 22.
The captain’s meeting will be Oct. 21 at Crump’s Landing at 6 p.m. and then the tournament on Oct. 22 starts at 7 a.m. with a weigh-in at 5 p.m.
21st Annual Chili Cook Off
The 21st Annual Chili Cook Off, hosted by Lecanto Levi’s 4H club, will be on Oct. 8 and 9 at Nature’s Resort in Homosassa with gates opening to the public at 10 a.m. and chili tastings to start at noon.
There will be basket raffles, 50/50 drawing, vendors, music, dessert auction and more.
Proceeds from the Chili Cook Off are donated back to Citrus County Charities: Citrus Aid Cancer Foundation, Citrus Anti-Drug Coalition, Citrus County Blessings, and Lecanto Levi’s 4-H Club for their Santa for Seniors program and to sponsor families for the holidays.
Have a laugh, help local charities
A comedy show just for women who are 18-plus in age is slated for Saturday, Oct. 29, with the doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and the show kicking off at 4:30 p.m.
This PG-13 show will be at 320 N. Citrus Ave. in Crystal River, bayside, at the Crystal River Woman’s Club.
There will be a 50/50 drawing, raffles and live and silent auctions as well.
This annual fundraiser for the GFWC Crystal River Woman’s Club is to raise funds for local charities and scholarships.
Three top comedic women will be performing in different acts portraying clean fun for all to enjoy. Tickets are $20 per person. Donations and sponsors are also being accepted to help raise funds for the event.

Scarecrow Festival is Oct. 8 in Crystal River
The annual Crystal River Scarecrow Festival will be Saturday, Oct. 8, in the downtown historical Heritage Village from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Heritage Village is at 657 N. Citrus Ave. and is lined with quaint shops and eateries that will be open for the public to enjoy.
This is a popular free, fun-filled festival that is geared for the entire family and has been a family favorite over the years.
There will be food trucks, games for the kids to play, pony rides, inflatables, costume contests and a petting zoo. For the adults, there will be artists and crafters, beer and wine available for purchase, nonprofit organizations with booths of information and fall photo-op spots.
D.J. Dusty will be on hand during the festival and there will also be live music by Sarah Diamond and the Soul Miners from noon to 2 p.m.
And for those who love pumpkins, the famous “Pumpkin Patch” will be on the grounds for purchase of delightful-looking pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.
This festival is always a fun day for everyone of all ages.
Concert Choir starts rehearsals
The Citrus Community Concert Choir has started rehearsals for the winter session, titled “Noel.” Rehearsals are on Saturdays at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian of Inverness, 206 Washington Ave., Inverness.
New singers are always welcome and should come a few minutes early for registration and have until Oct. 8 to join for this session. For any questions, email kmedrano@aol.com.
October Sunset Drum Circle
The Second Sunday Sunset Drum Circle will be held at Fort Island Gulf Beach, 16000 W. Fort Island Trail, Crystal River, on Oct. 9 at 5 p.m. (for this month only). Meet at the last picnic shelter.
This is a free community event and everyone is welcome. The event will be canceled if it is raining at the beach at start time.
Make sure the road and the beach is open because of possible closures due to Hurricane Ian. Call the number at the end of this announcement or go to Facebook under Citrus County Drummers to see if it has been moved or canceled because of beach closure.
Bring drums, flutes, shakers and small percussion instruments (homemade is okay), with a chair, beverage and bug spray.
This is a family-friendly gathering, so children are welcome under supervision.
Park rules do not allow dogs, alcohol or smoking. A newly paved sidewalk and a mobi-mat for handicapped in wheelchairs or walkers has recently been completed.

Poetry spoken word event to be held
On Oct. 15, local author and poet KD Gates and others will host “Indie Verse—A Celebration of Young Voices” from 6-8 p.m. in Liberty Park by the pavilion, 286 N. Apopka Ave, Inverness. Registration is at 5 p.m.
This creative event will give youths ages 14-21 an opportunity to express themselves creatively via poetry, spoken word, clean rap, or speech. The goal for this event is to propel youths to see life through words rather than a screen, and poetry is the catalyst to do just that.
Participants will present their piece(s) on stage before the community and, once finished, will have an opportunity to win one of the raffle prizes: one of two $100 Amazon gift cards, one of two $25 Wawa gas cards, or one Universal of Orlando prize pack.
Refreshments will be available for purchase. This event is a free community event and all donations will benefit the Citrus County Education Foundation and COLC Youth Department.
Brewers Union to hold Oktoberfest
The Inverness Brewers Union is bringing back Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 3-7 p.m. All proceeds go to support homeless veterans at Citrus County’s only veterans shelter operated by The Bridge 4 Veterans, Inc.
To help veterans in need, come for limitless samplings of craft beers, wines and ciders provided by over 30 local brewers and live band music by Taking Anderson. Food will be sold separately at food trucks.
Tickets are $25 per person (21 and older) in advance, $35 at the gate. Before Oct. 15, go to www.eventbrite.com and look for the Oktoberfest ad to purchase tickets online with a processing fee. Tickets are also on sale at Nine State Brewery at 200 Tompkins St., Inverness, on Fridays 4-10 p.m., Saturdays 1-10 p.m. and Sundays 1-6 p.m.
Oktoberfest is a street festival on North Pine Avenue in downtown Inverness, between Tompkins Street and West Dampier Street, presented by Inverness Brewers Union and hosted by Nine State Brewery. Enter at Tompkins Street for an ID verification, an admission bracelet and taster’s cup. Then enjoy a variety of beverages, music and food truck fare.
Floral City Heritage Museum cow hunter exhibit
A new small exhibit at the Floral City Heritage Museum will introduce visitors to the cow hunter industry of central Florida during the Annual Citrus County Alzheimer’s Walk Aware on Saturday, Oct. 15.
The Museum will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the walk. The normal hours of operation are every Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and there is no admission charge; donations are gratefully appreciated for this all-volunteer museum.
The Heritage Museum and the Walk Aware for Alzheimer’s will be centered in the Town Center, 8394 and 8370 E. Orange Ave. respectively, where the fifty state flags will be flying during the event.

Cornhole Tournament & Silent Auction
On Saturday, Oct. 15, at 11 a.m., will be the Together Making Changes 2022 All In, Cornhole Tournament & Silent Auction at the Two Guys from Italy’s brand new Cornhole Courtyard, 5792 S. Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa Springs.
They are accepting up to 30 teams of two. Single participants will be paired. It is a $20 donation per team. There will be first, second and third place and door prizes. First place prize is $100. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.
All proceeds go directly to their 2022 elected charities: Tunnel to Towers Foundation and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Military Card Party to be held
The St. Benedict Community of Catholic Women will have a Military Card Party Tuesday, Nov. 15, in Hilgert Hall at St. Benedict Catholic Church at the corner of Ozello Trail and Highway 19. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

Post card enthusiasts to gather
The Sunshine Post Card Club’s Post Card & Ephemera Show & Sale for fall is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8.
The event will be held at the Country Inn & Lakeside Events Center, 4750 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa.

Annual Field Day coming up
Come celebrate where everyone’s a winner at the 34th Annual West Kiwanis Field Day on Friday, Oct. 21, at Crystal River High School.
This event brings together more than 300 intellectual and developmentally disabled children and adults from the Citrus County community to compete in various athletic events.
The event will begin with the traditional Parade of Athletes at 10:30 a.m., followed by a ceremonial torch run.
The athletic events will quickly follow the Opening Ceremony and continue through the morning, both on the field and inside the school gym. This event is open to the public and admission is free.
Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 29
Knights of Columbus Council 6168 is seeking participants for its 27th annual Father Willie Memorial Golf Tournament on Oct. 29 on the Oaks Course of the Citrus Hills Golf and Country Club.
Tournament organizers will welcome anyone who wants to play, men and women.
This year’s tournament entry fee is $65 per person. It includes beverages on the course, greens and cart fees, lunch in the clubhouse, and prizes.
The tournament will begin with registration at 7:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. It will be a four-person team handicapped scramble. There will be one flight with prizes for first, second and third places, as well as closest to the pin and long drive.

Family and Friends Reaching for Abilities (FFRA) presents their annual Halloween Drive-Through on Oct. 28 and 29. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the event is open until 10 p.m.
Tickets are available at the gate, all cars $20 per vehicle. Log this address in the GPS: 6065 Sydney Terrace, Homosassa (off Cardinal Lane by Walmart), or find it located east of Howard’s Flea Market: Drive east on West Cardinal Street, turn left on South Lewdingar Drive, and follow the signs.

VFW Post 7122 to hold Trunk-Or-Treat
Parents bring your children to VFW Post 7122 for Trunk-Or-Treat on Sunday, Oct. 30, from 3-5 p.m.
This will be the second year they have enjoyed the children and their parents in our community, visiting their secure parking lot with the veterans and their families for the children to trick-or-treat.
Families are invited to come to 8191 S. Florida Ave., Floral City, for this fun event.
Inverness Elks Lodge 2522 to be open for weekend
The Inverness Elks Lodge 2522 will be open to the public over the weekend of Nov. 4 and 5.
On Friday, they will have dinner available 5-7 p.m. Food Reservations must be received by noon on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and can be made by calling 352-726-2027. There will not be availability for non-reservation dining.
Food entrees offered are grilled salmon for $17, baked chicken for $16, or pork tenderloin for $16 with vegetable, baked potato, salad and dessert.
Music will be provided by DJ Trae from 6-9 p.m.
Lodge Social Quarters will be open from 2-9 p.m. on Friday. The public is welcome all weekend.
On Saturday, while supporting the Citrus County Education Foundation at the Dragon Boat Festival, stop in for a break. The lodge will be open to the public with beverages and food offerings.

Kid’s Corner: Pumpkin Painting and Spooky Stories
Bring the kids to a free Kids’ Corner and Crafternoons event at the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum on Oct. 15 at 1 p.m. where they’ll be painting designs on pumpkins. Kids will also get a caramel apple.

Museum to offer Fun with Fruit event
The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum offers free family programming on the first and third Saturday of the month.
On Oct. 1, families can come to the museum for a special event in partnership with Citrus County Extension Services to learn about and enjoy Florida’s agricultural offerings.
Fun with Fruit will give children and families an opportunity to make healthy, locally sourced snacks while learning about the importance of Citrus fruit to Florida.
A “smoothie bike” will be on-site as well. Pedal the bike to mix and blend your own fruit smoothie. Activity is recommended for children ages five and up.

Car Show Ride coming up
Citrus Hills Cycling Club, in conjunction with Bike Florida, announces the 2022 Black Diamond Invitational Car Show Ride on Sat., Oct. 22, beginning at 8 a.m. at the County Road 486 Lecanto Trailhead Park adjacent to Wendy’s, located at 2832 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Lecanto.
The car show is an annual tradition and showcases very outstanding vehicles by invitation only.
There is a $5 charge for adults to attend the show, which opens at 10 a.m. They plan to arrive by 9 a.m. and ride through the community for an hour before the show opens. There is no charge to ride, only to attend the car show after the ride.
This annual ride is one of the largest held by the Citrus Hills Cycling Club and the club is hoping for its largest turnout ever this year.
Join for a great ride, car show, and to connect with Bike Florida, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting bicycle awareness, education, and infrastructure in Florida.
VFW holding military card party
The VFW Post 4252 will be hosting a Military Card Party on Wed., Nov. 2, at the Post, 3190 N. Carl G. Rose Highway, at the helicopter on State Road 200, Hernando.
Doors open at 11 a.m. with lunch at noon and games starting at 1 p.m. The price is $15 per person and includes lunch. There will be games, prizes and a silent auction.

Garden Club planning holiday trip
The Homosassa River Garden Club invites the public to join them on a holiday trip to St. Augustine on Dec. 2.
The cost for the day is $90 per person which includes admission to the lighthouse tour and is non-refundable.

They will meet at the visitor center at 6:15 p.m. and travel to the St. Augustine lighthouse for a 7 p.m. self-guided tour and the more than 20 Christmas trees. They will also be able to climb up the tower and view the city Christmas lights.
They will leave St. Augustine at 9 p.m. and return around 12:30 a.m.
Post 4337 to host BBQ Cook-off
On Oct. 15, the VFW Post 4337 is hosting a BBQ Cook-off Fundraiser.
Come out to compete with other grillers or to sample great barbecue. The event’s proceeds go to supply guide dogs for veterans.
Card Club seeking members
Point of Woods Card Club has been hosting games for more than a decade and is now seeking new members.
Singles are welcome and will be matched to a partner. Members don’t need to know conventions. They talk to each other to understand the game better. For those who know basic bridge, they will help to learn duplicate.
They play on Fridays from noon to 3 p.m. at Point of Woods/Too Far Clubhouse, 9228 E. Gospel Island Road, Inverness. Take State Road 44 east towards the Turnpike, turn left at the Speedway gas station at Gospel Island Road, the building will be on the left past the golf course with uphill twin asphalt driveways. German/American Club to host festival
The German/American Club of West Central Florida invites the public to attend their Fall Festival on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 1-5 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2389 W. Norvell Bryant Highway, Lecanto.

The Ladies of the West Citrus Elks will begin hosting their annual Arts and Craft Festival Oct. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge at 7890 W. Grover Cleveland Blvd., Homosassa.
The West Citrus Elks are looking for local artists or arts vendors to consider sharing their talents with the community. Applications are now available.

The Ozello Writers Guild is sponsoring a photo contest for the cover of their new short story book “Ozello: Three Bridges to Paradise.”

Join softball fun at Bicentennial Park
Bring a glove to Bicentennial Park behind the Crystal River airport at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and participate in a game of softball or just spectate.
A group of ages 55 and older (age flexible) men and women gather to pick teams and enjoy the exercise and fresh air. No league fees or team commitments. Experience is helpful, but not required. Everyone can play.

Register for the Black Diamond show
The eighth Black Diamond Invitational Car Show will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 at Black Diamond Ranch, 3125 W. Black Diamond Circle in Lecanto. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the public is welcome at 10 a.m.
Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Central Citrus, this car show will generate funds for local charities. Expect to see fine examples of antiques, classics and modern vehicles gracing the fairways on the first holes of the Highlands Golf Course.

The Nature Coast Dulcimer Players host an acoustic music jam from 3 to 5 p.m. most Mondays at the Central Ridge Library community room, 425 W. Roosevelt Blvd. in Beverly Hills.

Among the wellness programs offered by Friends of Citrus and the Nature Coast at its Wings Grief Center, 8471 W. Periwinkle Lane (gold building on right) in Homosassa Springs is Café Break!
At Café Break! Anyone grieving or lonely can find a safe place to socialize with others, work puzzles, play games or chat over a cup of coffee and snacks for 2-1/2 hours starting at 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays and at 9 a.m. Thursdays.

Community center open mic nights
Citrus County Parks and Recreation presents open mic nights from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. the last Wednesday monthly at the Citrus Springs Community Center at 1570 W. Citrus Springs Blvd. at Citrus Springs.
Vocalists, musicians, poets and comedians are welcome at this all-ages event. No profanity is allowed.
Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Masks will be required to enter the building, but not by performers during stage time.

A Women’s Mahjongg Club is forming for residents of Sugarmill Woods. The version that will be played is the Wright-Patterson (not the American version).
Floral City Crafters gather
The Floral City Crafters meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Floral City Baptist Church, 8545 Magnolia St.
The crafters are a group of knitters, crocheters, quilters, jewelry makers and more who share their love of crafts and spend time together. Attendees can bring their crafts or learn a new one.

Sunshine Poets meet, read
Join the Sunshine Poets’ monthly meeting and poetry reading at 10 a.m. on the last Thursday of each month at the Central Ridge Library in Beverly Hills.
Attendees are welcome to bring poems to share, or just listen. If you would like the members to critique your poems, bring several copies on which they can write suggestions. Attendees are also welcome to join the group afterward for lunch at a local restaurant.

Free ukulele classes offered
The Hernando Area Senior Program is hosting free ukulele classes with Joy Wilson at noon on Tuesdays at 2415 N. Florida Ave. in Hernando. All skill levels are welcome.

Citrus Bridge Club plays
Citrus Bridge Club has face-to-face games at 1 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the Tree Top Plaza, 1647 W. Gulf-to-Lake Highway in Lecanto.
Ruby Life Master Mike Swartz offers a series of beginner lessons from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays. While geared toward the beginner player, current bridge players will also find Swartz’s lessons are a good refresher.
In an effort to keep all participants safe, proof of vaccination will be required for the regular games and for Swartz’s lessons. Masks are recommended but optional.
Inverness Bridge Club plays
A limited number of players can join Inverness Bridge Club free to play either duplicate or party/rubber bridge at noon, Mondays and Fridays. The club plays a friendly game that is not sanctioned by the ACBL that normally lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours. For information, email pepperpothead@gmail.com.
