Goth Babe puts entertainment first in his Roadrunner concert performance

[ad_1]

For those who don’t know Goth Babe, he’s a 25-year-old electro-dream pop artist also known as Griff Washburn. He currently lives in a small house in Washington DC and donates $1 from every ticket sold for his 2023 Lola Tour to Protect our winter.

But if there’s one thing anyone needs to know about Goth Babe, it’s that he knows how to work his way through a crowd.

Goth Babe opened with Yoke Lore and Flipturn to a sold out crowd at Roadrunner Music Hall on May 7th. From the first moment he hit the stage, it was clear that crowd interaction was his specialty.

Goth Babe’s touring band took the stage to play the backing, instrumental song “New Born Worlds.” As the first notes of “Moments/Tides” kicked in as Goth Babe ran onto the stage, soothing blue lighting enveloped the musicians, suddenly turning white.

“What’s up with you guys,” he said, and immediately started singing the lyrics.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, he frequently cracked jokes with the audience during shows, including the occasional cowboy “yip yip,” and many Southern proverbs pervaded him. After the first song, he casually asks if anyone in the audience wants to squeeze in a “pool toy” to surf, as if it’s a common question at the concert.

Maybe for Goth Babe. Before he could finish his question, hands were in the air, and fans screamed from all sides of the packed pit lane.

Fans floated to the song “Alone in the Mountains” in a giant watermelon pool, and then Goth Babe started checking on her, asking if she’d like to get out or go around and listen to another song.

She decides to surf the crowd for another “Casita,” before being led to the front of the stage where Goth Babe stands, and helps arrange a dance battle between the two halves of the venue during “Encinitas,” his song with Louis The Child.

Towards the end of the show, Goth Babe had an even longer heart-to-heart with his fans.

“We’re trying to make these little 70-minute concerts more than just going to a show, having a few drinks and going home,” says Goth Babe. “We want you to go into the room and leave judgment at the door, and come in and feel like you’re part of something bigger than anything you’ve ever been through.”

That’s what he’s done from the beginning. After nearly every song, he would check on the audience to make sure everyone was fine and ask if anyone knew the lyrics to sing along with him. He threw cupcakes and beach balls at the crowd, asked for updates on the Celtics-Nuggets game, and confronted the audience with strangers asking what brought them to Boston.

At every turn, Goth Babe ensures his concerts are an interactive experience for fans. Fans don’t have to worry about whether their dancing or singing is too loud, they can enjoy a unique concert experience curated by Goth Babe.

Lighting effects facilitate the same nurturing experience. If someone loses the beat of a song, it’s easy to know when to nod or jump because they can easily mimic the movement of the lights.

Different songs are associated with different colors as the lights of each track ebb and flow. The lights flashed blue and red on “End Summer,” but stopped on “I’m in Luv.” The extravagant presentation rivals The 1975, a band known for their aesthetic staging and concept shows.

Even though Goth Babe hasn’t released a full album yet, fans still seem enamored with the artist’s music, dancing to all his electro-pop hits. Goth Babe wraps up his set with encore tracks “Driving South” and “Weekend Friends.”

As the stage lights dimmed and Goth Babe’s voice wafted from the speakers, fans stayed behind, dancing to the artist’s curated EDM playlist.

Maybe they stayed with their friends, or maybe they stayed to spend their last days with new friends they made because of his music.
