“The fieldwork is a powerful and honest look at the impact of PTSD,” says Grindstone’s Stan Wertlieb. “Nicole Mejia is a true genius – her film pays tribute to our veterans because it inspires and touches our hearts.”
Mejia is a Los Angeles-based writer, director, and producer who was recently selected as one of the inaugural Director Fellows at Adelante Lab, a TV shadow research project created by Latinx House in partnership with Netflix, Sundance, and Shondaland.her recently released short film Mancha Awarded a LALIFF/Netflix scholarship for her AFI thesis film, My life stopped at 15, received the ASC Heritage Award. The latter, based on Mei Jia’s personal story of recovery from sexual abuse, was also shortlisted for the Young Director Award.
Originally from Honduras, Mejia was the first in her family to have a BFA (Drama, from Cornish College of Arts) and an MFA. She was awarded the latter as part of the AFI Directing Program and was awarded an Audi Women’s Scholarship.
Grindstone partner Stan Wertlieb negotiated the deal a place in the field Representing the company, with attorney Robert Benun representing the producer. Mejia is represented by Larry Schapiro and Matt Luber of Luber/Roklin Entertainment.
