Cellist Zuill Baileyplaying Antonin Dvořák’s Cello Concerto with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra this weekend in Arkansas (today at 3 p.m. at the Robinson Center Performance Hall in Little Rock, 426 W. Markham St. on Broadway), keep playing Fran ZSchubert’s Quintet in C Major, D .956, with the Orchestra’s Quapaw Quartet, Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the lobby of the Clinton Presidential Center, 1200 President Clinton Avenue, Little Rock.
Bailey is Richard Sheppard Arnold Distinguished Artist of the Orchestra. The quartet includes Meredith Maddox Hicks and Charlotte Crosmer, violins; Timothy MacDuff, viola; and Chava Appiah, cello. This is the fifth concert in the Orchestra’s 2022-23 River Rhapsody Chamber Music Series.

Brian Thompson, retiring from a 34-year career with Tyson Foods, will discuss his book “Saving the Buffalo River Again” for the Central Arkansas Library System Legacy and Lunch series, Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Thompson’s book is a first-hand account of the seven-year controversy over the quiet 2013 granting of a license for a large industrial hog farm along Big Creek, a major tributary of Buffalo’s National River. celebrate!maya project In honor of the late poet, author and actress Maya Angelou’s 95th birthday, a series of April events will begin at 6 p.m. The documentary at the Ron Robinson Theater at 100 River Market Ave. in Little Rock follows people from the streets of Battambang, Cambodia trying to understand the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime.

sensory day
In recognition of World Autism Awareness Month, the Mesoamerican Science Museum, located at 500 Mesoamerican Boulevard in Hot Springs, hosted a sensory day, Tuesdays 9-11am for families and children with autism or other sensory sensitivities. Through funding from the Elizabeth D. Wagner Foundation, the first 125 event attendees will receive free admission to the museum.
The museum hosts four sensory days throughout the year. Diane LaFollette, CEO of the Mesoamerican Science Museum, explained that the museum’s “loud sounds and bright lights … can be overwhelming for some of our guests who are sensitive to so many sensory stimuli. Overwhelmed. On Sensory Days, we turn off the lights to make sure the museum is a place for all curiosities.” A sensory guide available on the museum’s website allows you to safely explore each exhibit; sensory backpacks are available at the front desk, providing noise-canceling headphones, Sunglasses and a fidget toy.

Mother of three children with autism is putting on second year Autism Awareness Foundation, April 15, 2-4 pm, Halls 3-6, Murray Lock and Dam Park, 5900 Rebsamen Park Road, Little Rock.
