H Hotel Dubai, located in the heart of the Emirates, has once again received Green Key Certification from the UAE Green Building Council, a leader in environmental responsibility and sustainable operations.
This remarkable win underscores the hotel’s commitment to sustainability, which is reflected in their ongoing efforts to implement a consistent strategy for a variety of environmental causes.
H Dubai, like all hotels of STORY Hospitality, has an ecological project based on 5 interrelated pillars. They are: reduce, reuse and recycle, reduce water usage, save energy, care locally and fair trade. These elements are intertwined with the goals of improving the environment and extending the practice to other parts of the world.
The hotel also recently invested in a bio-digester, a smart machine that has so far digested 1,830kg of food waste in two months, reducing carbon emissions by 3.9 tonnes.
Sophie Blondel, General Manager of The H Dubai, said: “As Green Key certified recipients, we are proud to say that our efforts are being recognized nationally, encouraging us to continue in the right direction and fulfill our commitment to the environment. Responsibility: Due to the sheer number of food operations and resulting food waste challenges, the hospitality industry has been praised for its large carbon footprint.
“To address this issue, H Hotel Dubai installed a Power Knot LFC-100 Biodigester to address the food waste challenge. It improves in-house food management and disposes of organic waste quickly and safely, while significantly reducing the hotel’s carbon footprint.”
The bio-digester releases decomposed food in the form of wastewater, which is safe for the environment and is used to enrich the hotel’s landscaping. Additionally, data generated through the bio-digester will allow the five-star hotel to identify areas that will help reduce overall food waste and enable more efficient and smart planning in the kitchen.
Over time, the bio-digester will also reduce the cost of disposing of food waste and signal investment in H Dubai’s long-term commitment to sustainability. – trade arab news agency
