Habtoor to build largest residential tower in Dubai

Dubai-based Al Habtoor Group has announced plans to build “the world’s largest residential tower” on Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, complete with ultra-luxury living facilities.

The ‘Habtoor Tower’ will appear on the banks of the Dubai Water Canal, overlooking the Burj Khalifa in the Business Bay area, close to the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC).

A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the project on Thursday.

Groundbreaking technologies include:

* Morning drive to an 80m deep hairpin (deep pile foundation system) with a 15m high plunged steel column. This will allow the main contractor to begin construction of the superstructure immediately while saving six months of construction time.

The above resulted in a single column-single hairpin solution with a load capacity up to 220,000 KN (22,000 tons). The structural system, applied for the first time in Dubai, was developed by one of the local engineering firms associated with the Al Habtoor Group. The system has also been validated through detailed engineering peer review from world-renowned experts; Structural San Francisco, Imperial College London and Terrasol Paris.

* It will use, for the first time in the UAE, the highest grade of steel in the construction industry, 600 MPa, which will result in the lowest use of steel reinforcement and therefore the lowest carbon emissions.

* Concrete of the highest grade 90 will be used for the first time in the UAE; concrete grade C90 for hairpins will be used for piles for the first time in the UAE and in the world, optimizing the use of concrete for this project.

* Use pre-painted metal flooring in parking lots and commercial areas to save renovation construction time.

*Using top-down construction, one year of construction time can be saved and a construction area of ​​350,000 square meters can be completed in 1000 days.

Al Habtoor further commented: “As a direct impact of this innovative building technology, a significant reduction in CO2 emissions has been achieved – less than 50% of the carbon emissions of conventional buildings. Environmental experts are currently evaluating our Habtoor Tower, which aims to It has obtained LEED Platinum certification (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) issued by the highest authority in the global green building rating system.
