The first pilgrims arrived in Dubai on July 12 after completing the fifth pillar of Islam. Their flight departed from King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah at 11.30am.
A total of 1,214 people arrived at Dubai Airport between July 12 and 13. On 12 July, up to 4 aircraft (two Saudia and two Flynas flights) were deployed to transport 945 returnees. On July 13, three flights (one Emirates, one Saudia and one flydubai) carried 269 passengers. The last group of pilgrims are expected to arrive at Dubai Airport Terminal 1 at 8.30pm.
The first returnees included representatives of the Dubai government, including Mohammad Al Marzouqi, head of the Hajj Committee at Dubai Airport; head of the Hajj delegation, Marwan Al Shehhi; and government officials Bader Abdul Aziz Al Hai and Fahad Fahad Al Mazrooei.
Al Hai and Al Mazrooei, who were making the pilgrimage for the first time, were delighted to be among those selected for their first post-pandemic hajj.
This year, Saudi Arabia allowed 1 million Muslims to perform the Hajj. UAE residents also have more permits than in the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Only 1,000 pilgrims were allowed to make the pilgrimage after the Covid-19 outbreak. Last year, the total number of pilgrims rose to 60,000 fully vaccinated people selected through a lottery system.
