On July 12, the first group of pilgrims arrived in Dubai after fulfilling the fifth pillar of Islam. Their flight left Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport at 11:30 am.
A total of 1,214 people arrived at Dubai Airport between 12 and 13 July. Up to four aircraft (two Saudia and two Flynas flights) were deployed on 12 July to transport 945 returnees. On 13 July, three flights (one Emirates, one Saudia and one flydubai) carried 269 passengers. The last pilgrims are expected to arrive at Dubai Airport Terminal 1 at 8.30pm.
Among the first returnees were representatives of the Dubai government, including Mohammad Al Marzouqi, chairman of the Dubai Airport Hajj Committee; Marwan Al Shehhi, head of the official Hajj delegation; and government officials Bader Abdul Aziz Al Hai and Fahad Fahad Al Mazrooei.
First-time pilgrims Al Hai and Al Mazrooei were delighted to be among those selected for their first post-pandemic pilgrimage.
This year, Saudi Arabia allowed 1 million Muslims to perform the Hajj. The number of permits for UAE residents has also increased compared to the past two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.
After the Covid outbreak, only 1,000 pilgrims were allowed to make the pilgrimage. Last year, the total number of pilgrims increased to 60,000 fully vaccinated people selected through a lottery system.
