Brad Halliday is heading to Dubai and is accelerating his recovery from a season-long knee injury.
The defender damaged his cruciate ligament in just four games of his career at Fleetwood Town earlier this season, an injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
As part of his treatment, he travelled to Dubai for some warm weather training while connecting with the Cod Army’s new UAE team, Fleetwood United, to watch them train and play.
The full-back explained: “I came to Dubai for some rehab and here’s a physio I’ve worked with in the past and it was nice to get out of the usual environment to help speed up the rehab process.
“It’s going very well, the medical staff at Fleetwood are fantastic and working hard with me, I’m ticking every day, which is great.”
Halliday was carried away on a stretcher during the match against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in August. The 26-year-old admitted it was a difficult period in his career.
He explained: “From a personal point of view, it’s very frustrating. It’s very tough to sign a new team in the summer and then get seriously injured for four games, but it’s part of the game and part of football. I Just trying to be stronger than ever, hopefully I can.
“It’s a very challenging spell, you do have very challenging days with such a serious injury.
“But when you get word so early after an injury that you’re going to be out of the season, I guess it helps you sort that out quickly. It allows you to break down your recovery into small phases and tick them off one by one.”
While in Dubai, Halliday was able to visit the training ground of the town’s new sister club, Dubai United, and played their first game on Thursday night, as they beat the Emirates 3 tier 1-0 in a pre-season friendly. Team D-Garden.
That connection is something everyone can benefit from, Halliday said.
“The facilities here are great,” he said. “As players, we’ve talked about the connection in Dubai, how good everything is here, and the club wants to build a club here – it’s great.
“I managed to play on Thursday night and I found it really interesting to see the level and what Fleetwood was building.
“As players, we look forward to being here one day in pre-season and playing against Fleetwood United one day!”
