Happy Birthday to Sins Motorcycle Club, UAE

UAE Sins Motorcycle Club Having been loud and proud for Dubai’s Sikh community for the past eight years, the group celebrated the anniversary this week with a huge festivities.

The occasion was celebrated with the Bhangra Crew, a traditional dance school that opened six years old this week, with members hosting an event at the Al Khoory Sky Garden Hotel.

Gunan Singh, founder of the UAE chapter of the motorcycle club, said the event was “fantastic”.

“Bhangra Crew are our brothers, they come from the same roots. Over the past six years, we have done many projects together, exploring and sharing the same culture and traditions of Punjab and India.”

Not only was the evening a bi-anniversary, Singhs MC UAE also launched an elite club and invited people who are not cyclists but want to do something for the community to join the club.

“Anyone looking to do something for the community, young people and the next generation can join to promote culture, traditions and connect people,” said Gurnam Singh.

Singhs MC The UAE heritage, whose members like to call themselves “Turbanators”, dates back to 2014, when long-time Dubai resident and architect Gurnam Singh co-founded the club with Tanuj Singh.

“We have accomplished so many extraordinary projects during this period. So many special rides for the country, so many parades,” he said, citing the Year of Tolerance, the Year of Zayed and breast cancer awareness campaigns.

Most recently, the group participated in an anti-drug rally with Dubai Police this month and attended Inaugural Kandura Rally.

Gurnam Singh said the guest of honor at the event was Punjabi singer-songwriter Virasat Sandhu, who also “promoted the culture of Punjabi and Sikh history”.

Gurnam Singh said that the Bhangra Crew performed very well on stage. The school teaches traditional Indian dance to young people, he said, “shifting their focus from gadgets and equipment to the floor and giving them an hour of exercise on weekends to keep them fit”.

The women also performed the Punjabi folk dance giddha at the event.

Another highlight of the event was the community’s tribute to the late Indian singer Sindhu Moose WalaOn 29 May, he was killed while driving near his home in Moosewala village, Mansa district, northern Punjab province.

Moose Wala visited the UAE last year to shoot a music video with Singhs MC UAE, “the only club in the world that shoots videos about God in his songs,” said Gurnam Singh.

“We salute everyone standing, from children to the elderly.”

Gurnam is also celebrating the club’s latest achievement, the launch of a chapter in Sydney, Australia called the Singhs Social Motorcycle Club, which currently has 28 members.

The most recent ride they took was a 350km trip to the war memorial to pay tribute to the Sikh soldiers who fought in World War II.

“Our next vision is our North India branch,” said Gurnam Singh. While the chapter already exists, there are plans to expand its reach.

Gurnam Singh said he could not have done all this without the UAE’s community.

“We are grateful to the community that has given us so much love, the fans engaged on social media, the UAE government and authorities who have given us the freedom to wear the hijab, promote our culture and explore the vision of brotherhood.

“We look forward to carrying this message beyond the UAE.”
