On Sunday, heavy rains triggered mudslides and more floods in Japan, killing three people and forcing dozens of residents to evacuate.

A mudslide that occurred earlier on Sunday hit a house in Okaya City, Nakano Prefecture, Japan, burying eight residents. According to the Fire and Disaster Management Bureau, when rescuers found them, three of them were presumed dead and two others were injured. The other three were rescued safely.

On Friday, a mudslide in Nagasaki killed one person, injured another, two others were missing, and another mudslide in Hiroshima caused one serious injury.

The disaster management agency said that by Sunday, dozens of people had been rescued in the flooded areas of southern Kyushu and Hiroshima.

Since last week, the southwestern part of Japan has been pouring heavily. The Japan Meteorological Agency said that because the front is trapped in the sky over the Japanese archipelago, more rainfall is expected in the next few days.

Nearly 200 municipalities with high risk of floods and mudslides have issued evacuation instructions, affecting more than 4 million residents. Those who ignore them will not be punished.

The disaster management agency stated that more than 500 houses across the country were damaged by floods and mudslides.
