Just a 10-minute drive from Abu Dhabi International Airport, you can arrive at the wonderful and exhilarating Yas Island, home to three unique and exciting theme parks and many other attractions. With Ranveer Singh as its new brand ambassador, this fast-growing entertainment and leisure destination in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, is the ideal getaway if you want to indulge in excitement, fun and plenty of high-end shopping. Let’s take a look at the three theme parks on Yas Island, each more different and unique than the other.
Ferrari World
If you’re an adrenaline junkie, this indoor park is definitely for you. But if you’re dizzy or unsuitable for scary, nauseating rides, you can pass it. Ferrari World is the world’s first Ferrari-branded theme park, offering 40 rides and experiences, crowned with the fastest ride in the world called “Formula Rossa”. The only time you bask in the sun outside is on Formula Rossa while soaring to a height of 52 meters before going from zero to 240 km/h in 4.9 seconds! The next daunting ride you must try is the mighty “Flying Ace,” which features the world’s tallest roller coaster loop, and then the “Turbo Track,” which offers an epic zero-gravity drop.
If you don’t want to experience such an exciting, adrenaline-pumping ride, choose “Bell’Italia” where you can take a leisurely ride with your family in a circa 1958 Ferrari 250 California in a mini-Italia by your side. From the Amalfi Coast to the Colosseum, it will take you through iconic cityscapes to Italy’s famous landmarks and velodromes. Another family-friendly ride is “Speed of Magic”, which will take you on a 4D simulated ride through dunes, underwater, icy slopes, and finish off an exciting F1 race.
The movie action-based driving simulation “Drive with the Champions” is also very fun, giving you the feeling of racing with a virtual F1 professional while pretending to be a trainee engineer at the Ferrari factory. If you want an in-depth look at how the Ferrari GT is built from scratch in the Ferrari factory, check out “Made in Maranello”. Finally, when you’re hungry, don’t forget to sample authentic Italian food at Mamma Rossella, from pasta to pizza and then delicious ice cream to complete your Italian experience.
Yas Water World
If you have kids and want to spend quality family time together, a water park is always the best place to go. Head over to Yas Water World and watch your kids go wild – there are plenty of kids’ water parks to choose from, as well as delicious food from a variety of restaurants located around the park. We opted for Chubby Kitchen, which has everything from fried chicken to pizza to noodles.
As for adults, the ride options are endless. Start with “Bandit Bomber,” a high-speed hover coaster that will take you through a lost cave where you can see people walking around the park right below you. Your legs are literally dangling when you’re sitting in this car, so it’s definitely not for the weak. ‘Slither’s Slides’ has you sitting in a giant tube as you slide through a serpentine dark tunnel and splash into a landing pool, while ‘Sebag’ has you lying flat on a mat with your head up!
When you’re tired from the adrenaline rush and want to unwind with your family, head to “Amwaj”, a wave pool with four unique wave patterns. It also has sunbeds at Amwaj Beach where you can lift your feet and soak up the atmosphere. Before you leave the park, be sure to head to “Cinesplash,” a unique 5D attraction that tells viewers the story of “The Legend of the Lost Pearl,” where you’ll ride with a little girl named Dana and her animal friends Find lost pearls. Water splashes on you and fills the cinema, it’s a hell of an experience. After going out, stop at the many shops to pick up your favourite Yas Waterworld merchandise – I bought a t-shirt and fridge magnets as a souvenir.
Warner Bros World
This indoor theme park has a beautiful virtual sky that will make your inner 90s kid scream with joy from day to night. Divided into different themed areas – Dynamite Canyon, Cartoon Junction, Bedrock, Gotham City and Metropolis – this park has something for everyone, whether you’re an adult or a child. At Dynamite Gulch, be sure to jump on “Fast and Furry-ous,” an upside-down roller coaster that makes you feel like you’re chasing a super-fast Roadrunner!
In Gotham City, you can’t miss “Batman: Knight’s Flight,” where you’re recruited by Wayne Tech as a test pilot for the latest prototype of the ultimate city patrol car, while you continue to help Batman catch his nemesis the Joker. The sim experience was so exhilarating that I went on two rides! When it comes to simulation, Metropolis’ Green Lantern: Galaxy Odyssey is arguably the best in the park. Join Hal Jordan and the interstellar peacekeepers to save the world and fly across the universe in this 4D flying cinema experience. Sadly, Justice League: World At War, which pits Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman against evil, pales in comparison to the other two rides in terms of simulation.
In Bedrock, take a scenic Bedrock Boat Cruise where you can see the daily lives of all the beloved characters from “The Flinstones” – Fred, Wilma, Pebbles, Bamm-Bamm, Barney, Dino and Betty. Join Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and the gang in Scooby-Doo: The Mystery Museum as they track down clues and uncover the villain. You can also take pictures with all your favorite characters including Superman, Wonder Woman, Bugs Bunny, Tweety, Fred and Wilma Flynnstone as they roam freely in the park and make your childhood dreams come true real.
Now that the pandemic is slowly (thankfully) a thing of the past, make sure you consider Abu Dhabi’s exciting Yas Island as your next family holiday. I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
