Residents are taking full advantage of winter festivals. By popular demand, Mother of the Nation Festival and Al Maryah’s Winter Wonderland have been extended. However, there are more events to look forward to this weekend.
Here are the notable events leading up to Sunday:
60 Family-Friendly Activities in Capital Parks
More than 60 family-friendly events will take place at Capital Park near the Corniche until Sunday (4pm-11pm) as part of Moments Abu Dhabi. Sponsored by the Department of Community Development, it will include games of skill, a candy park, a snowball fight area, an LED winter parade, stage shows, bumper cars, a giant game, ziplines, art and educational workshops. There will also be free health checks for visitors.
Cool Winter Wonderland
Winter Wonderland returns at Al Maryah Island with games, activities and shows until 31 December. South Plaza has been transformed into an outdoor winter village with snow-covered cottages and festive decorations (4pm-10pm). Attractions include Santa’s Grotto, snow slides, a snow park and an ice skating rink. Kids can enjoy interactive science experiments, decorate trees with ornaments, ice fish, play snowballs, and share their letters with Santa.
Fireworks, mass weddings and shows
A mass wedding organized by the Ministry of Community Development will take place on Saturday at the Heritage Village on Sheikh Zayed Day. There will also be a spectacular fireworks display at 10pm. During weekends, community members can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment at several pavilions and booths at Al Wathba’s festival site (from 4pm to midnight, open until 1am on weekends).
In-depth “Pearls of Wisdom” exhibition
Divided into seven areas displaying valuable manuscripts from the fields of literature, heritage, religion, music, philosophy and science, Qasr Al Watan’s Pearls of Wisdom exhibition takes visitors on a historical journey to explore the influence of Arab culture on Europe, emphasizing The role of Arab civilization in fostering religious dialogue and contributing knowledge paved the way for the European Renaissance.
Mother’s Day Reopening
Extended by popular demand, Mother’s Day will reopen on December 23rd until January 1st, 2023. The event’s six themed zones: Shopping Zone, Live Arena, Amusement Park, Inspire Space, Thrill Zone and Food Hub, will return with more fun, entertainment, retail, food and beverage concepts, various Activities and Games (open from 4pm to midnight).

The Photography Studio at Manarat Al Saadiyat is presenting a stunning exhibition of historically significant images, the first of its kind in the Middle East. From photographs of the late Sheikh Zayed driving a Rolls-Royce through the streets of Abu Dhabi to the earliest surviving photographs taken by French inventor Nicephore Niepcet , the exhibition will take visitors on a journey back in time, tracing the origin of photography. The exhibition runs until April 24, 2023.
Celebrations on Yas Island
At Yas Mall, there will be a variety of events and entertainment including meet and greet with the man in the red suit, festive art workshops, a Christmas themed photo booth, and fun for all ages throughout the holiday season until December 28. Additionally, Winterfest at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and Winter Spectacular at Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi will continue until 8 January 2023 with a variety of entertainment.
