Hijri is the first month of the Islamic calendar
Saturday 30 July will be the official paid holiday for all public sector employees in the Emirate of Dubai. This date marks the beginning of the Islamic New Year (1444H).
Unlike the Gregorian New Year, which is based on the solar system, the Islamic New Year is based on the lunar system. Hijri is the first month of the Islamic calendar.
Earlier this month, Ibrahim Al Jarwan, a member of the International Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences, noted that the Islamic New Year – also known as the Hijri New Year or the Arabic New Year – will fall on July 30 this year.
The next official holiday also falls on Saturday – October 8, to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The Remembrance Day and UAE National Day holidays will translate into a four-day weekend. December 1st, 2nd and 3rd will be closed days; December 4th is a Sunday and therefore a four-day holiday.
