With the New Year fast approaching and several UAE residents from around the world gearing up for 2023, the whole family is getting ready to travel to the Caucasus country, as well as neighboring countries like Oman and Saudi Arabia, to celebrate the last night of 2023 that year.

Konica Minolta Marketing Manager Deepak Dunani will be traveling to Georgia this New Year with his wife and a few friends. “We were supposed to be traveling over the Christmas break but due to heavy traffic, [a prior] Engaged, we can’t. Right now, we have all the travel arrangements,” Dunani said.

Dunani is an avid traveler and travels abroad 3 times a year. “We travel on my birthday, my wife’s birthday and at the end of the year – and this year it happens to be New Year’s Eve. We’ve heard a lot about Azerbaijan but haven’t been there yet. I’ve heard from friends that Baku is welcoming the new year great place.”

Dunani bought an all-inclusive package for Dh2,200. “We booked a package from Rooh Travel and Tourism which included flights, accommodation, sightseeing and more,” he said.

“We’ve been making plans for the past four years, but couldn’t travel because of the pandemic.”

Lane is very excited and has compiled a list of countries she wants to visit in the next two years. “I want to go to Europe, Middle Eastern countries, Japan and China in the next two years – I also want to go to New Zealand to celebrate New Year’s Eve.”

Many residents also planned trips to Oman and Musandam but are now torn between heavy rainfall in the Arabian Peninsula. “I recently received a residence visa and all my friends are planning a trip to Oman. We even got the Oman visa and adjusted our travel plans. But due to the rain, this may not be possible and we may have to cancel our travel plans,” said Fahim Ahmed, who recently moved to Dubai.

Syed Aijaaz and his brother Syed Zeeshan are heading to Mecca to kick off the new year by performing Umrah. “We take off on December 30th. We will welcome the new year in a spiritual way and pray for peace and harmony throughout the world,” the brothers said.

Before returning to the UAE, the Indian diaspora will go on a spiritual journey to their homeland.
