Holoride launches new device to bring VR entertainment to any vehicle TechCrunch

[ad_1]

Audi-backed startup Holoride is ready to take its in-car virtual reality entertainment system mainstream.

The company unveiled a device about the size of a smart speaker Wednesday at CES 2023 in Las Vegas that can be retrofitted into any vehicle to make it VR-ready. The offering marks a turning point for a company that has relied on partnerships with automakers for growth.

Today, Holoride’s in-vehicle VR technology is only available in certain regions 2022 (and Newer) Audi Vehicles. This new product will greatly expand its market reach – if consumers choose to reduce the $ 799 package price.

The retrofit kit weighs less than half a pound and attaches to the vehicle’s windshield with suction cups. The hardware comes with a lithium-ion battery that lasts up to 14 hours on a single charge, and an included USB-C to USB-A cable that plugs into your vehicle. Up to two earphones can be connected at the same time for holoride modification, allowing two passengers to enjoy holoride at the same time in the car.

pack Includes retrofit hardware, HTC VIVE Flow headset, one-year subscription to the holoride platform, and seat belt. The holoride mod can also be purchased separately for $199.

“The release of our holoride revamp opens a new chapter in the holoride journey. Our vision of providing a manufacturer-agnostic entry point to the ‘Motorverse’ has finally come true,” Holoride CEO and co-founder Nils Wollny said in a statement Say. “Now, any vehicle can serve as your gateway into holoride’s adaptive virtual experience, where each new ride becomes a blueprint for your next immersive adventure.”

The Holoride retrofit works similarly to its existing technology. The product connects to VR headsets via Bluetooth. Holoride’s software utilizes the vehicle’s movement and location data. The virtual reality content is synchronized with the vehicle’s motion in real time to prevent motion sickness.

The company also announced updates to its VR catalog, which includes educational apps like Einstein Brain Trainer and games like Cloudbreakers: Leaving Haven from Schell Games and Superconductor, the creative firm founded by the Russo Brothers. Holoride announces that subscribers will now have access to the new game Pixel Ripped 1995: On the Road (PEGI7) from ARVORE Studios. The complete product line also includes a custom web browser and an Android mirroring feature for smartphone screens.
