Hong Kong beats UAE to advance to Asian Cup; joins India, Pakistan in Group A

Al-Amerat (Oman)Aug. 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) Hong Kong qualified for the Asian Cup main event after beating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by eight wickets at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat.

With Hong Kong finishing their qualifiers as number one, they will now join India and Pakistan in Group A of the Asian Cup T20 event. Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are in Group B.


Their match against India will take place in Dubai on August 31, followed by a clash with Pakistan in Sharjah on September 2. Coincidentally, Hong Kong beat the UAE in the 2018 qualifiers, in the same group as India and Pakistan in the ODI Asia Cup.

Hong Kong and the UAE lead the standings after Kuwait beat Singapore by six wickets and completed their chase of 105 by 7.5 points ahead of the final Asian Cup qualifier. Net run rate.

Opting to bowl first, off-spin player Ehsan Khan shined for Hong Kong with the ball, winning 4-24 in his four rounds. Hong Kong, which ranked 23rd in the ICC T20I rankings, will make its Asian Cup T20I debut after participating in the Asian Cup T20I in ODI format in 2004, 2008 and 2018, finishing fourth.
