The Hope Probe of the UAE Mars mission has released its seventh batch of data on Martin’s atmosphere. The data was captured between September 1, 2022 and November 30, 2022 by the probe’s three instruments, EMIRS, EMUS and EXI.
Eng Zakareyya Al Shamsi, Project Director, UAE Mars Mission, said: “The data and observations from the Hope rover dovetail with the growing global interest in understanding Mars. information, while highlighting the UAE as a key contributor to the development of space science and technology. The UAE Mars Mission team will continue to analyze and release new data on Mars every three months to improve understanding of natural phenomena on the Red Planet.”
The seventh batch of data includes high-tempo observations of dust motion captured by the Emirates Exploration Imager (EXI) on August 25; September 6, 13, 15, 24; October 1, 6, 15, 19/20, 29; and 11/9/16.
The Emirates Mars Ultraviolet Spectrometer (EMUS) has conducted the first stellar occultation observations at extreme ultraviolet wavelengths to study the upper atmosphere of Mars. Data captured by EMUS between October 24 and 27 included stellar occultation observations, which the instrument detects starlight as it passes through the Martian atmosphere, allowing the density of CO2 and other materials and their vertical distribution to be retrieved.
The dataset also includes the EMUS field of view (FOV) mapping experiment conducted on October 3. By using the spacecraft to gyrate to repeatedly drift a star across the instrument FOV while observing, the team was able to confirm instrument alignment and refine pointing knowledge.
With its seventh data release, the Hope Probe of the UAE Mars mission has released a total of 2.1 terabytes of data about the Red Planet’s atmosphere through the mission’s Science Data Center. –trade arab news agency
