House of the Dragon and This Is Gonna Hurt Bafta TV Craft Awards

[ad_1]

Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon and BBC dark comedy This Will Hurt have swept the Bafta Television Craft Awards with three awards each.

Comedian and TV presenter Mel Giedroyc hosted the annual awards ceremony at The Brewery in London on Sunday night to honor talent behind the scenes.

House of the Dragon, the HBO fantasy based on George RR Martin’s “Blood and Fire,” set 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” initially dominated the awards show.

The big-name series starring Matt Smith, Emma Darcy and Paddy Considine won awards for makeup and hairstyling, sound: fiction and special, and visual and graphic effects.

Meanwhile, the dark medical comedy “This Is Going To Hurt,” based on Adam Kay’s best-selling book of the same name, also picked up a trio.

The BBC series, starring Ben Whishaw and Ambika Mod, won both the Scripted Casting and Editing categories, while Best Writing: Drama went to 42-year-old Kay for the first time.

It features commentary from hosts including Hugh Edwards, Kirsty Young and David Dimbleby – who made their comebacks for the event.

Meanwhile, the Entertainment Craft Team Award went to the BBC’s flagship show Strictly Come Dancing.

Derry Girls creator and writer Lisa McGee also won the Writer: Comedy Award for the hit Channel 4 show about a group of teenagers in Derry growing up during trouble.
