How Abu Dhabi’s T10 COO plans to conquer the world

[ad_1]

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi T10 League, the biggest, youngest and fastest cricket competition to date, is in full swing in the UAE.

bridge Come here to the Zayed Stadium to find out the future’s place for the format and whether it’s the only way to bring cricket to a global audience through the Olympics. On the sidelines of one of the games, reporters interviewed Rajiv Khanna, chief operating officer of the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Khanna is also associated with some of the world’s most exciting leagues such as the Indian Premier League, Professional Kabaddi League and International Tennis Premier League, and a former cricketer himself, Khanna has plans to make the T10 format a global phenomenon .

extract:

Q: The T20 format is still relatively new and it is constantly evolving. Now T10 is the next format that has passed. Where do you see the space for T10 as a fourth format?

T20 is still relatively old, about fifteen years old. But T10 also has a lot of room for development. If you see the Olympics, T10 is the most desirable product in the future. It’s fast paced. That’s 90 minutes. It’s interesting. This is why T10 will occupy a place in the current sports market.

Another function of T10 is to provide talent for T20. The T20 is at the top of the list, no doubt about it. But T10 may be a platform to provide talent for T20. T10 stars will become T20 future stars – as Liam Livingstone did.

This product contains meat. This is how and where you market it. The overall philosophy of our company is to make T10 a global product.

Q. Why do you say T10 is the most likely to bring the sport to the Olympics?

If you’ve seen any other sports in the Olympics, they’re all short-span — soccer, hockey. No Olympic sport lasts longer than 90 minutes. T10 is the format of cricket matches.

Additionally, organizers have struggled to find dates and locations for T20. In T10, you watch three games a day and all of that combined makes it a product that could actually be a product of future Olympics.

Q. How do you think T10 attracts players, viewers and even broadcasters and sponsors? What are the challenges?

I will use this year’s Abu Dhabi T10 as an example. We have 1600 registrations in the draft. T10 is the only format in which nine international players compete. It provides employment opportunities to cricketers across the globe.

Also, all the cricketers I’ve talked to love this form. They like to entertain and they like to have fun. Leagues are usually between 10 and 15 days. I like T20 as a format, but sometimes it takes a toll on the players if the league lasts two or three months. This kind of competition system, you have up to two venues, and it will be over soon.

Liam Livingstone’s exploits in the Abu Dhabi T10s make him an exciting prospect for England in 2021. Subsequently, he also became a superstar in the IPL.

Q: What about broadcasters and sponsors?

If you’ve got good cricketers involved, good owners there – it’s going to attract crowds, it’s going to attract broadcasters, it’s going to attract sponsors.

Q: The Abu Dhabi T10 League has been here since 2017 and now attracts some of the best talent. What do you think is the next step for the league?

We want to make this alliance a global alliance. We have signed a contract with Sri Lanka to host the Lanka T10 in June next year. This is the first member committee to formally sign a T10 league contract. This recognizes the format. The UAE is an affiliated member of the International Chamber of Commerce, but Sri Lanka is a full member. We are planning a league in Africa, in Zimbabwe. The plan is to expand the league globally to have five (if not more) leagues worldwide.

Q: Will one of the leagues be held in India?

India I can’t say. BCCI approval required. We’d love to do that and we’ll ask the BCCI to see if it’s possible. The future will tell us that.

Q: When can we see the women’s T10?

In June next year, there will be a women’s T10. Sri Lanka T10 will have males and females.

Q: Since you have previously worked with the IPL, how do you see India T20 evolving in terms of audience, grassroots and revenue? How does it compare to the T10 format? Do you see any resemblance, or does the T10 have a slightly faster ride?

People saw the T20 as the future of cricket in India and then it became an instant hit. It provides employment opportunities for many cricketers who would never have dreamed of a career in sport. This has helped bring T20 in India and globally to where it is now. Again, entertainment, T20 excitement, all of that helped T20.

Q: Do you see this journey as similar to the upcoming women’s IPL?

Absolutely. This is an important step for BCCI. I congratulate everyone on the board. I believe women’s cricket has a bright future.

Q: Do these new formats herald the demise of ODI cricket in the future?

I think every form of cricket has its place in this system. I don’t see any format dying. All formats will coexist, that’s all I can say.
