He stored their precious possessions safely in a special museum in his house.

As the country celebrates its 50th anniversary, this UAE collection may include the diverse peoples that make up the UAE.

Adel Hussain Ahmed, 43, is an antique collector who buys items from people who were forced to sell during the pandemic.

“When the pandemic started, many of them tried to cope financially and started to sell items at low prices. Even if they didn’t want to, they were forced to sell. So, when I buy some items or some antiques from A person or family member, I make sure that I put it safely in my home. I also told them that as long as they want to take it back, I can return it as a gift. I don’t need money,” Ahmed told Khaleej Times.

His home in Mamzar is a treasure trove of objects and collections from the past to the present. He stored each item in a specially built room, and it took him four days to build it.

“No matter what items I keep in the museum, I will make sure to send them a picture to let them know how it is stored or preserved. Seeing this, they will be very happy that these may be precious to them The items are safe and taken care of,” he added.

From the handicrafts, paintings, old mobile phones, cameras, transistors, tape recorders and phonographs of the past era to the Quran collection and handwritten Islamic books, Ahmed has approximately 900 to 1,000 objects.

“When I looked around most collectors in Dubai, they had some nice and interesting items. When I started collecting, the real challenge for me was experience. I didn’t have any previous experience, so I started to research and read. Regarding collections and antiques, quality, age, and where I can buy from. Now, I do have some experience collecting antiques,” Ahmed revealed, who trawled in Dubai and searched for such items on various social media platforms. .

“I don’t have any favorite items, but I like those items that have stories. They are related to the person I bought or gave to me. Through that item, I can feel the person and the person who owns it. Time to start. I like the history or meaning behind this project,” he said.

Ahmed told an anecdote about a Ukrainian girl. He spent a lot of energy buying handmade photos from her.

She used to make photos with small crystals and other elements on silk paper, and it took three months to complete one. But under the epidemic, she struggled to make money.

“I want to buy one, she plans to sell 300 dirhams. I was shocked and I told her that I would buy them all because I knew how much effort it took. One of the photos used about 9,000 small pieces to make Yes. I told her that if she wants to return these photos, I will return them to her,” Ahmed said.

“In turn, she gave me a crown, which belonged to her grandmother. In her Ukrainian village, when a woman was about to get married, she would wear this crown. This is their tradition. Her actions made me Very touched.”

“It’s not a question of money”

“Most antique collectors buy only to sell later. For me, it’s not business. For me, it has nothing to do with money. Some items do have a history. I learn more from them and how they are How many years have they got it. I respect these items. Someone asked me why I should buy useless items, but I think there is a story behind each item,” Ahmed said, and he also plans to provide his Quran collection and ancient Islamic books.

“In the future, I hope to build a larger museum in my home and open my doors for everyone to see,” he signed.
