The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced the relaxation of visa requirements for international freelancers, making it easier for them to live and work in the country.
New policies announced by the UAE Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) are expected to attract more freelancers to the UAE and boost the country’s growing digital economy.
Under the policy, the virtual work residence visa will allow remote workers to live and work in the UAE for up to one year while continuing to be employed by companies outside the UAE.
To be eligible, applicants must earn a minimum monthly salary, have valid health insurance, and be able to work in the UAE.
The visa is valid for 12 months and can be renewed.
Virtual Work Residence Visa
Foreigners employed outside the UAE can legally reside in the UAE on a virtual work visa.
The one-year visa allows foreigners to enter the UAE on a self-sponsored basis and work under the terms and conditions of the visa issue.
To apply for a Telework Visa, the aspirant must provide proof that he/she works remotely for an organization outside the UAE and that he/she earns USD 3,500 or equivalent in other currencies per month).

The virtual work scheme is valid for one year; people living and working outside the UAE; entrepreneurs; startups meeting the eligibility criteria.
How do I apply for the Virtual Work Program?
To apply for the virtual work scheme, aspirants need to have a passport valid for at least six months and valid health insurance covering your residence in the UAE.
The virtual work program costs AED 350 per person.
Applicants can apply for a visa through the ICP website or smart application (UAEICP). However, the applicant must enter within 60 days of receipt of the entry.
