The Best Way to Wrap Your Cup
This trick works great for mugs or any type of small gift. What you do is actually create your own gift bags out of wrapping paper to customize the gift to suit you.
- cut a piece of wrapping paper – Unfold the wrapper, place the mug on the right end of the wrapper, then fold the wrapper over the left side, covering the mug and overlapping slightly.
- Apply double-sided tape inside the left edge of the paper – You can also use a glue stick.
- Fold each side of the paper towards the middle and press to close – The left side with the double sided tape should go over the right side.
- folding base – The width of the fold should fit the diameter of your mug or other small gift.
- Crease diagonally to create a triangle on the sides – It’s similar to wrapping the top and bottom edges of a square box.
- Fold the triangle tips into the middle and glue them in place – The tips should meet near the middle or overlap slightly.
- Open your “bag” and insert the cup/item.
- Press the top of the bag, over the cup/item, to create the crease.
- Fold the top of the crease edge to about half an inch below.
- Fold the top down again to close the bag and tape.
- Decorate with ribbons, bows or ornaments.

How to Wrap With or Without Tape
This simple technique uses tissue paper and wrapping paper wrapped around the gift. You simply place a mug or other gift in the center of the wrapping paper. Then the four corners of your collection file meet at the top. Wrap tape around the area at the top of the gift, holding the paper in place. If you don’t want to use tape, you can simply tie a piece of twine or other string where the tape was.
You can even use this technique with materials on hand instead of wrapping paper. Below is a list of possible materials to use.
Materials to replace wrapping paper
- the fabric – If you do a lot of sewing, chances are you have a lot of leftover fabric. Instead of letting it collect dust, use it to wrap presents. Just cut the fabric the same way you did the wrapping paper.
- newspaper – Tie it with a ribbon and even a newspaper will look festive. Since black and white are neutral colors, any pretty ribbon will complement it nicely.
- kraft paper – Rolls of tan kraft paper commonly used for wrapping are also suitable for wrapping mugs. Likewise, neutral paper can be enhanced with decorative ribbon or twine. If you want to buy brown paper, it’s also a lot cheaper than buying traditional Christmas wrapping paper.
- cellophane -Use cellophane over the tissue paper to protect the tissue paper and give it a little festive shine.
