Hurricane Compassu hits the Philippines, 9 dead and 11 injured-News

The Philippine National Disaster Agency stated that 9 people were killed and 11 people were missing in the Philippines on Tuesday due to flooding and landslides caused by tropical cyclone Compassu.

Kompasu’s maximum sustained wind speed of 100 kilometers per hour absorbed the remnants of an early cyclone before it made landfall in the Philippines on Monday night. Nearly 1,600 people were evacuated.

The disaster agency said it was verifying information from its regional units, which reported that four people were killed in landslides in northern Benguet province and five people were killed in flash floods in Palawan, an island province in the southwest of the country. .

The authorities are conducting search and rescue operations for most of the 11 people who have disappeared after the landslide. The Philippines is an archipelago with more than 7,600 islands. It is hit by about 20 storms or typhoons every year, bringing heavy rains and causing deadly landslides.

His spokesman Harry Rock said on Tuesday that President Rodrigo Duterte is overseeing the government’s disaster relief efforts.

He added that rescuers are at the scene, electricity and water supply restoration and road clearing are in progress.

The National Weather Service stated that Kompasu was the 13th tropical storm to enter the Philippines and is expected to leave its territory on Tuesday.
