International Federation of Dramatic Stage Practitioners (ielts) announced the formation of the IATSE Artificial Intelligence Committee. The committee aims to bring together union members, representatives and external experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by the advent of AI. artificial intelligence (AI) in the entertainment industry.
In a statement, Matthew D. Loeb of IATSE emphasized the importance of understanding the impact of artificial intelligence on the industry and its members. He likens the importance of this technological shift to the transition from silent films to “films with sound” and the introduction of color in film.
“Just as silent films became talkies and the big screen changed from black and white to full color, the IATSE Artificial Intelligence Committee is part of our commitment to embrace new technologies. We will strive to equip our members with the skills to navigate this technological advancement and Ensuring that the transition to this new era prioritizes the interests and well-being of our members and all those working in entertainment.”
The committee will examine AI technology and its potential impact on entertainment industry jobs, particularly those under IATSE jurisdiction.
In addition, it will explore how contractual terms, legislation and training programs can be adjusted to ensure that the benefits of increased productivity through AI are distributed fairly among all stakeholders.
The IATSE Artificial Intelligence Committee will comprise representatives from various fields within IATSE’s jurisdiction, as well as subject matter experts from academia and the technology industry. The committee will start work immediately, and its findings and recommendations are scheduled to be published at the midsummer meeting of the IATSE General Executive Committee in July 2023.
