Imran Khan sues Shahzeb Khanzada, Umar Farooq in UAE over Toshakhana gifts allegation
Lahore (Dunya News) – Pakistan Justice Movement (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has filed a defamation lawsuit against a private news channel in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), its anchor Shahzeb Khanzada and businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor , accusing him of selling merchandise he received as a gift from state gift repository Toshakhana.
The head of PTI announced the development on Twitter, saying “My UAE lawyers led by Hassan Shad have now filed a criminal defamation (defamation and slander) suit under UAE law against Geo TV, Shahzeb Khanzada and the fraudster Umer Farooq Zahoor” .
Mr Zahoor made headlines after appearing on Mr Khanzada’s show and claiming to have bought Mr Khan’s Graff watch for around $2 million from Farah Khan, a close friend of the PTI chief’s wife Bushra Bibi. This is the famous watch given to Imran Khan by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Suleiman during his visit to Saudi Arabia.
On December 5, the former prime minister said he had begun preparations to sue a British (UK) news channel for allegedly selling expensive watches on the open market. Earlier this week, Mr Khan allegedly bought expensive diamond jewelery presented to him by foreign dignitaries for a pittance during his tenure as prime minister.
