The first official Dubai Fashion Week, formerly known as Arabian Fashion Week (AFS), which recently concluded in Dubai Design District (d3), saw a 55% increase in RSVP compared to AFS in March 2022.
The global event, supported by TECOM Group PJSC member d3 and the Arab Fashion Council, is one of the most popular in years.
Fashion shows and events are sold out every night, featuring buyers and designers from the world’s major fashion capitals.
Khadija Al Bastaki, Senior Vice President, Dubai Design District (d3), said: “Dubai Fashion Week is a great way to make Dubai a fifth global fashion capital.”
“Designers showcased the highest level of creativity and craftsmanship throughout the week. As a global creative platform, we at d3 are delighted to see Dubai helping to shape the global creative conversation. DFW not only provides regional and international talent with access to new partners gateway to relationships, markets and opportunities, but also responds to the global call for inclusivity and diversity in the fashion industry. This is thanks to Dubai’s multicultural melting pot and commitment to fostering a creative economy.”
Evolving from the successful Arabian Fashion Week, Dubai Fashion Week is Dubai’s new definitive fashion event and part of the city’s bid to become the fifth fashion capital alongside Paris, New York, London and Milan.
The event became part of the International Fashion Week calendar, debuting some of the city and region’s most dynamic runways and projects, but lasting six days. More than 45 shows, presentations and events are hosted on the Fashion Calendar. Some 28 designers from more than 10 countries presented their Autumn/Winter 23/24 collections and the 2023 women’s haute couture collection.
Jacob Abrian, CEO of the Arab Fashion Council, said: “The new Dubai Fashion Week is off to a good start. We have surpassed the momentum we gained during Arab Fashion Week, if we look at the packed shows and the positive response from talent, buyers and audiences. Looking forward to it all, we are already working with d3 to ensure that the next edition raises the bar even further and establishes Dubai as a central contributor to the global fashion conversation.”
In addition to a flexible structure custom-made for the event, Dubai Fashion Week takes place in unique open-air settings – including a basketball court and skate park at The Block at d3. Exclusive events were also held across the city as part of the vision to expand Dubai Fashion Week’s reach and unite the city and regional fashion scene.
Fashion Partners joins the hype with a series of invitation-only experiences. The Emergency Room and Byhpe hosted exclusive parties, while Dubai Fashion Week member designer Hussein Bazaza hosted intimate fashion presentations and parties.
